Re: M25 Engine Timing Case

Dick:

Sorry to hear of this difficulty at the beginning of the season. I have no source for the cover, but would appreciate hearing what caused the need for replacement. Crack from the alternator mount?

Re: bosun's chair

We do this a couple of times a season. While I won't incur the wrath of my wife and post her weight here, I will say it is close to 50% less than yours. We use the main halyard for lifting and the jib halyard as a safety. The job requires four people - one in the chair, one on the winch, one on the ...

Re: Fisher of Fish ??s

Bill- Do yourself a favor - consider a boat rod. As a kid my father always dragged us along going for stripers and bluefish in Narragansett Bay with hand lines, and some of my worst childhood memories are trying to haul in a 4 or 5 pound fish without the benefit of a rod. Fast forward 50 years, and ...

Re: To all the Northeast Brethern

The only positive thing I can think of with respect to the sudden bounty of snowfall here in the northeast is that I am infinitely glad I invested in a new winter cover!! My old homebuilt winter cover and frame would have collapsed in disgrace by now, and I would have had that disheartening call aga...

I noticed that when I looked at the initial pictures, and made sure to include stanchion and lifeline gate locations in my measurements to him.

Re: Barnacle Build Up on Prop

The results this year with Micron Extra and Petit Zinc spray are as follows. Zero barnacle or other growth on the bottom, minimal barnacle growth on prop. Certainly not enough to affect operation under power or even notice a performance difference, and I did not do any cleaning during the season. Ve...

Re: Winter Cover

Jim: Based on the promo photos sent to me by Jim at ShipShape it suspected it was your 31 that was the lead boat for the matching covers he was offering. I guess I have you to thank for the excellent patterning job! Paul: Do-it-yourself shrink wrap is simply not a possibility for many of us in yards...

Re: Winter Cover

OJ:

The new cover uses the main and club booms as the support structure. I added a 2 x 4 boom crutch to take the load off the main topping lift.

Re: Winter Cover

And I might add, it was a wonderfully cathartic experience dumpstering the homebuilt wood frame and well worn (5 years of service) Harbor Freight plastic tarps! Not to mention the appreciative comments from my usually supportive wife who was tired of the yearly covering effort.

Winter Cover

I don't often offer up product endorsements, but at the risk of offending anyone, I want to provide this morsel of information. IF you are looking for a winter cover (and please, don't use this as a starting point to debate the relative merits of different options), then let me suggest you consider ...

Re: Winter storage : water in the bilge from the shrink wrap

In 6 years of CD31 ownership I have never achieved a dry bilge, winter or summer. 2 gallons of antifreeze every winter, bilge pump turned off, with both shrink wrap and a home built frame with tarp covering, never a freeze problem, but never dry. Perhaps it will be better this winter with the Shipsh...

Re: excessive vibration mid rpms

As with any dynamic system, changing spring rate to ground (i.e. new engine mounts) will alter the resonant frequencies. It is unlikely that the cutless bearing is the culprit, since the typical rubber lined bearing does not need any break in. Are you certain that the shaft is running true and cente...
