I agree with Matt. Buy the boat that suits what you plan to do. It makes no more sense to spend $500K on an ocean going boat that will never go offshore than it does to tackle the Atlantic in a row boat. As to modern vs traditional it's all about trade offs. Cape Dory built great boats in their day ...

The November meeting is coming up so.....

I won't be able to attend the Annual meeting of the the CDSOA (I'm cruising in Italy) but I would hope that the members in attendance and those that have expressed a concern over the "associate membership" question will express the concern raised by the members of this forum.

Thanks,

Thank you cathy...

An open and honest discussion is all that I want. Let everyone voice their opinion so the board will know where the membership stands. Then vote on the issue and let the members know not only the results but the rational behind it.

Yes but...

Carl, In one respect I agree with what both you and Bob have said. As such I have taken Cathys suggestion and urged others to do so. However, as a dues paying member I resent your attempt to take away this forum, the only one available to an Associate Member, simply because everyone that has access ...

An update...

Earlier in this thread I mentioned that I had taken Cathys suggestion and Emailed each of the national officers. Our Rear Commodore, Steve Kuhar has since responded favorably and promised to being the matter up at the November board meeting. Hopefully when the rest of our National Officers return fr...

Corect me if I am wrong

Bob,

Unless I'm mistaken and please correct me I am but as an Associate Member I don't have the right to make, second or vote on any issue.
That only leaves this forum.

Rich good advice. I followed Cathys advice and Emailed every board member but I failed to urge others to do the same.

Tell them what you think. Their Email addresses are at the bottom of the CONTACT US page. don't forget to remove the NO SPAM portion of the Email address.

Thank you

I would like to thank everyone for their support and would urge others both associate and regular members to express their opinion. I know many of our officers are off attending various Cape Dory rallies and rendezvous, as they should be, but hopefully this issue can be fully reviewed when they retu...

Dean for what it is worth I also think your 22#Bruce is a bit light. I had the same anchor on my CD 27. Not to start any anchor wars but should you decide to go bigger be advised that the new cast Bruce anchor sold by Lewmar is a poor imitation of the old forged Bruce. When Lewmar came out with thei...

I've taken the suggestion

Thank you Cathy, a great suggestion. I have sent an Email to all of the national officers asking why the need to relegate CD power boat owners and former CD sailboat owners to Associate status. I've also asked for specific reasons. Also, in support of this search for reasons I've asked for a polling...

OK I've pondered, tell me why?

Warren I heard the same tale of evil things happening when the question of granting CD power boat owners full membership first came up. This happened several years ago. There was much gnashing of teeth but no rational facts were ever presented. I voted in favor but fear carried the day. I think Neil...

Brand "X" Fleet

Lets not forget the former owners of Cape Dory sailboats who have moved on to other sailboats (yes there are others) and must step back to associate status. I'm a former owner of both Lady Jane (CD-27) and Journey's End now Liberty (CD-36) and a founder of the NE fleet but because I moved up to an O...

Living the dream

This is a great thread. Mike and I have sailed off into the sunrise (Armand – very funny post! We went in the right direction): we sold everything and moved onto our boat three years ago and are now enjoying the Med. Like Chuck, we haven’t regretted a minute (except those days when everything go...
