Re: CD 27 Engine Replacement

Just browsing here & saw a reference to Oriental, my former home port for CD-27 Rhiannon, now in other hands. That W-13 may have been Rhiannon's factory engine that I replaced with a Beta 14. The Westy was wondeful & well cared for but servicing it was too much for me. the Beta was a dream i...

Re: On becoming a Geezer Sailor

I'll cast another vote for geezerhood by posting. Lot's of old friends here.

Re: Repowering a CD27

Hey Fred, Stanley at Betamarine can answer all your questions whereas I'd just be guessing. He can take the engineering drawings of your Yanmar and the dimensions of the Beta 14 and match them up. There's a good chance that the Yanmar will align or use simple bed risers to adapt -- this will be the ...

Re: Car battery charger for marine batteries

I just called Charles Industries and confirmed what Mainesail says. Charles is no longer in the battery charger manufacturing business. That's too bad because I always considered their products to be pretty much top of the line and significantly better engineered than most of their competition. Out ...

Re: Car battery charger for marine batteries

Roberto, Two birds with one stone ... I have a 10 year old 37" Sony Trinitron TV I'll sell you for $100, you pay packing and shipping. This will fix your TV problems, too. No charge for consulting. Now that NFL is not worth watching, I have no use for TV that my 13" Sony and rabbit ears wo...

Re: Car battery charger for marine batteries

Roberto, I'm a big believer in anything Charles Industries makes for marine battery chargers. AGM's do require a different charging algorithm for permanent installations and Charles products are superior to most others in this regard. This holds true with their lead acid chargers as well. In an emer...

Re: Porta Potty

Bly, I posted a reply to you earlier but somehow it didn't show up. Here's another attempt ... Rhiannon's head is a Sani Potti, bought from Jamestown DIstributors in 1986. Boat is 3,200 miles from here so I can't see who manufactured it but it has been rock solid since being installed then with no b...

Re: Porta Potty

In 1994, against all aesthetical (sic) sense, I installed a small Sani Potti in Rhiannon after the CG warned me about my direct discharge head. I had an annual charter already booked and felt the portable unit would work despite my personal distaste at the concept level. CG said if they caught me ag...

Re: Repowering a CD27

Go to Photobucket.com Login as: Trekker43 Use password: 4 3 4 3 4 3 This should open the site with all the pix I used as a trial run of Photobucket years ago. In the middle of starting this project I changed computers and went from Microsoft to Linux platforms. At the time, P/B didn't support Linux ...

Re: Repowering a CD27

Sure. No problem. I'd like a name to know who I'm talking to, though.

I'd like to do this so anyone who might be interested could access it.

Health situation is getting better but a long way to go, yet. This will give me a goal which is an important piece in this old man's picture puzzle of life.

Re: Repowering a CD27

I'll be happy to provide pictures but it's not an easy undertaking as they are scattered through 2 computers (Mac & Linux platforms), numerous emails & PM communications, 2 different camera memory media, & several thumb drives. Yes, my photo organizing skills are awful but the W-13 to Be...

Re: Repowering a CD27

Four years ago I replaced the original Westerbeke 13 in my CD-27, Rhiannon , with a Betamarine 14. Lot's of picures. At the same time I also fully enclosed the engine compartment, re-engineered and replaced the exhaust system, added a PSS, and a accomplished a handful of projects that were made poss...

Re: Belews Lake, North Carolina

Roberto, Don't forget Kerr Lake on the NC/VA line between Henderson, NC and Danville, VA. Some nice marinas (at least one permits liveaboards), some big open water stretches, good anchorages, a nice non-resident yacht club based in Danville, VA. Several active sailing clubs located around the lake. ...

Re: Belews Lake, North Carolina

Roberto, Your fear of hurricanes is unwarranted, BTW. Belews Creek is a local sailing hole for a small percentage of the Greensboro crowd. I sold the CD-25 you mentioned to the owner who chose to put his new Cape Dory there. He still lives in Greensboro and I see him occasionally. Belews Creek is a ...

Re: Boom Question

John, Didn't mean to confuse you but I probably misspoke. Your 36 has a different boom end than Dick's. Most early Cape Dories had totally external hardware at the end of their booms, i.e., no sheaves at the end like your boom like Far Reach. I should have stated "earlier" rather than &quo...
