Thanks
In response your questions & comments- It seems that there was no tape across the top edge of the rudder - this is where it split - about an inch deep. I knew water had gotten in there and that is bad so we cut the rudder open with a sawzall and pried it apart. Haven't inspected the metal too ca...

Rudder Rebuild Advice Needed
Hi Guys, My rudder of my CD30 was badly split, so I removed it, split it open, and chiseled out the filler. Lots of fun. I was surprised to see ...

What is gray and smooth and under my gelcoat...?
I don't know - but maybe someone out there has seen this before. On the hull and deck of my CD30 is a thin, medium gray colored coating between the gelcoat and the first layers of the matte of the fiberglass. I have not seen this before on other CD. I saw it on the hull first - thought it might be a...

While we're on the subject of portlights...
What is that hard, gray/black cement that Cape Dory used to bed the ports?
What should I use to fill holes where it's fallen out?
For rebedding portlights, is silicone the best adhesive?
Thanks for you advice,
jf

Is de-patina-ing necessary?
I have removed my portlights to replace the teak interior panels and was planning to clean off the old silicone and other dirt/gunk. I did notice that the old silicone had green patina powder under it, making the silicone pop right off. I hadn't thought about getting the patina off - but now that yo...

Original dimensions
I need to replace a broken bowsprit on my cd 30. Does anyone have the original dimensions? The end is missing, so I can't measure.
Suggestions on beefing it up?
Would oak be better than the original ash?
Thanks for any advice.

Too many bilge pumps may be a bad sign...
We have counted 5 bilge pumps so far: 3 electric and 2 manual during our exploration of our "new" CD30. Of course this could be because some of the thru-hulls were actually hand tight! No, you can't just slap more silicone around the edge of a thru-hull - they actually have to be tight!! :...

Microwave vs Oven
Yes, I have been thinking about that - but was worried about how much power consumption it would take. I think a 1 or 2 burner stove and a microwave would do nicely. I will also consider Corian counters - but I'm not sure if it will be worth the expense. I was amazed at the amount of space available...

Engine Placement?
Steve, Our 30C is a 1978 and the alternator is facing aft. We are also going to repower and were wondering if later 30s were built with the engine reversed - (alternator facing forward). If this is true, is the basic difference that the engine compartment comes out farther into the galley? Or is the...

CD30 Dream Galley - What would you change?
To all you CD30 galley slaves... If you could rip out your galley cabinets, counters, etc, and rebuild them to a dream configuration (realistically - I know there's no room for a walk-in)... What would you change? We have a new (to us) CD30 and just ripped everything out and we want to put it back w...

Interested in your re-power
Did your motor have a v-drive? If it did, did you use the same v-drive or did you have to buy a new one?
I am going to be repowering my CD30 and am wondering if I have to change the v-drive too?
