I don't know - but maybe someone out there has seen this before.
On the hull and deck of my CD30 is a thin, medium gray colored coating between the gelcoat and the first layers of the matte of the fiberglass. I have not seen this before on other CD.
I saw it on the hull first - thought it might be an aftermarket barrier coat - but it is directly on the fiberglass and seems to be everywhere on the boat so I am assuming that it was done by the factory - but I have no idea what it is.
Anybody know?
Thanks,
JF
What is gray and smooth and under my gelcoat...?

Tie Coat
A thicker than gel coat intermediate layer of polyester with adhesion promoting additives that are suppose to "wet" glass matt and promote a stronger bond to the gel coat. It is suppose to be thick enough to prevent glass from emerging through the surface of uncured gel coat during hand lay up.
I have it on my CD-25
