OK, I've been biting my tounge for as long as I could on this thread but the Pudgy comment pushed me over the edge. Cape Dorys are beautiful boats - don't they deserve classic tenders? A Walker Bay, once you've bought all the upgrades necessary to make it safe and seaworthy, could be more expensive ...

Did you lube the impeller? Smear some vaseline on it and you might find the problem solved. We have to do this to the pump on our MD7A sometimes.

I know it sounds odd but one good way to revitalize a pair of boat shoes that suffer from the hardened sole problem is to sand them down with 80 grit on an orbital sander. Once you take off the outer layer of hardened rubber you should find that the soles are as grippy as new.

If you are installing it on the lexan hatch be sure not to use acetone. I thought I was being smart by giving the hatch a quick acetone wipe before applying sealant but it turns out that it will melt the lexan. I ended up with a fairly nasty but well ventilated mess.

Sounds good. Pilgrim will be there and will be ready to party. We may or may not have guests along with us who may or may not try to camp on one of the islands. At any rate, we will be ready to picnic. We might bring BBQ fixins and some delicious blueberry crisp.

You just never know what your danforth is going to bring up. I once hauled up a long abandoned lobster trap, which is not an unusual find in Maine. On another occasion I hauled up another danforth with 30 feet of chain and about 40' of rode leading to a chafed end. Most surprising, however, was the ...

After grappling with the same question and getting no sure answers I ended up making the hole big enough for the fitting. Two separate friends, who are not electrical experts, warned me that the antenna performance would be compromised by splicing the wire. I will never know if they were right. - Mi...

Carl -

While you are down there groveling in the bilge and swearing at the engine, just be thankful that you don't sail a ketch and therefore don't have the added impediment of the mizzen compression post to work around.

Always looking on the bright side,

Hi Carl - I went through this same exercise in frustration last summer. My inelegant solution was to use the open end of a standard crescent wrench with a slightly offset handle which allowed me to make a 1/12th turn, flip the wrench over to make another 1/12th turn, flip it over again, etc. It felt...
