From: frequent reader, infrequent poster. I am repairing some side and coach roof issues on my allied greenwich, the predessor to the cd 25, and was wondering what the reasoning was to painting non-skid on the top sides? i will be painting kiwigrip on the side decks but am not yet decided on the coa...

Kids!
On a similar note Jessica Watson, another 16 year old, is about 3 months ahead of her. She left Australia back in October in a S&S 34 and first night out, in the dark, she ran into a cargo ship and escaped with minor damage; made repairs and set out again. She just rounded cape horn and came thr...

What gives?
If you take a look at the boats you'll notice some are of the tiller steering variety while others are use a wheel. Has the tiller vs wheel debate now come to a truce?

Vendee Globe
Not really Cape Dory related but since most CD's are either on the hard or preparing for the winter following the Vendee Globe can keep you in the spirit during the winter months. Check out the web site and follow this single handed, non-stop, race around the world. The race began today and you can ...

ShipTrak
Fred,
From time to time I check your position on ShipTrak but have not seen an update since Richards Bay. Have you given that up?
Also, as I'm sure you are aware, the Vendee Globe begins on November 9 so watch out for those 60 footers heading south!

FeNIX
As I am still quite new to sailing I frequently read (but have little to offer) the postings and chats and have learned much. I've especially enjoyed "sailing" with Fred on his circumnavigation with FeNIX but have not seen any posts since early May - can anyone provide an update?

Hymodyne, If you're looking for something on the Chesapeake side: my slip is not far from Salisbury - about 20 minutes west. There are two small marinas about three miles apart, one at Nanticoke and one at Bivalve both on the Nanticoke river but near Tangier sound and the bay. Those are probably the...

Any boat going under is sad - sadder when it's such a beautiful old wooden boat.

Tiller, Wheels & Cigars...
Sorry for the delayed response (somehow work seems to get in my way). Thanks to all for your insight - I somehow missed the earlier thread in my search on the subject. As I presumed the preference of one over the other is a bit personal though I am always a believer in the KISS principle. My "w...

Steering
This is a topic I have found little on in the archives. I am considering moving up from my 24' Allied Greenwich (precursor to the CD25) to something with a few more comforts (i.e. standing headroom, inboard, head, etc.) for cruising the Chesapeake. In looking (on line) at numerous CD's I've seen thr...

Thanks to all. As my first GPS I'll start with the handheld and then move up as I gain experience and sail futher from home and using paper charts as primary. Some local input favors the Garmin Legend which is what I'm leaning towards at this time and if $ permit I'll go with the color screen. Thank...

Handheld GPS
I've looked through the archives and found little on this subject - as a newbie to sailing (bought an Allied Greenwich last summer) I'm looking for a hand held gps for navigating the Chesapeake (as well as kayaking). Looking at Garmin, Lowrance and Magellan. Any advice/experience with any handhelds ...
