Transport
I feel your pain, SeaHunt! But it occurs that, as the seller appears tow-capable, you might work delivery into a deal? Would be in his best interest to move it anyway, I am guessing. Trying to sell a Cape Dory in Colorado strikes me as akin to selling a Massey Ferguson in Manhattan

Skipper
What an adventure it would be! I'd hire a skipper for a week or so to the Turks and Caicos. It's a milk run after that...

Dogs
Labs should do well - I've a neurotic beagle mix who bounces around quite a bit but doesn't do any real damage. On her first three-day cruise, we didn't make it to shore in time for her morning constitutional one day. She made efficient use of the swim platform, giving new meaning to "poop deck...

Too much sail?
"Too much sail" is far more likely to slow you down than add speed (excessive heal). I think the current commentors (pun intended) have it right. GPS is not always pinpoint accurate, either, as the devices don't communicate with satellites continuously - they take a snapshot at short inter...

Price
Russell/Sea Hunt: Just FYI, the CD 26 in question was originally listed by a different broker (run by the Marina in which it lies, Hartge's) for 25K. I thought that was a little rich. Only afterwords was it re-listed by a different, Annapolis-based brokerage for 30K. Maybe boat brokers are becoming ...

Thanks
Hey thanks, Carl. I'll go find a copy of the book. As for spinning props, intuition tells me a locked prop will create less drag than a spinning prop. In addition to intuition, I had toy helicopters as a kid. A "chopper" with locked rotors dropped like a stone. Allowed to spin freely, the ...

Thanks John
Thanks, John, for the input. I am not an offshore sailor (yet) and am trying to learn what I can from these sorts of episodes. I happen to be very leery of large sailboats for exactly the reason you point out - I don't ever want to own, never mind attempt a real voyage in, a boat I can't handle alon...

Debate
There's a debate raging over at sailboatowners.com about this voyage. There was a lot of head-shaking about Ken's planning and preparation before he was even in trouble. I will not judge, but if anyone's interested by all means head over there and join in. http://www.sailboatowners.com/forums/menune...
