I always divide it between racers and cruisers. My boat is named Collaboration, which is the antonym of competition. I am generally a cruiser, but as with all generalizations, they don't hold true all the time. I do enjoy crewing in a race every once in a while.

i phone GPS

The new i phone comes with GPS and street charts. Does anyone know if coastal charts can be loaded on it? Does the i phone GPS work off satellites or by triangulation on cell towers?

CD 33 headsail measurenments

My 1981 CD 33 has a 150 genoa. At least I think it is a 150. It is the size shown in the manual. I want to cut it down to a 130 or 135. First, is this possible and second, what would the measurements be. I would like the foot raised up some so I can see under it. Also, when furling in the genoa in h...

Galley pump priming?

The water tanks on my CD33 ran dry. So I filled them. But when I turned on the pump and the galley faucet, the water just spit out a little bit. I could see the pump running but it did not seem to be pulling the water up. Do I need to prime the pump? Or, might it be that the pump is bad? I switched ...

curves

The rub rail is only 1" x 3/4" in section and I am replacing all of the railling. So, my pieces will be long and should take a curve fairly well. Easing the back might help it bend as well.

Rub rail

I am replacing my rub rail. I took a piece of the old rail off and I noticed that the surface of the rail that goes against the hull is concaved. Is this to provide a place for sealant or to make the rail easier to bend or to provide some give when the boat bumps something? Do I need to duplicate th...

Campbell Sailor for a CD 33

I know some 33 owners have switched to a three blade Campbell Sailor prop. I have a 1981 33 with the Universal 5424 engine and I am wondering what size prop to use. Also, how much did you pay for your prop? Thanks

Alternator

This is probably a stupid question . If my alternator is working, should the needle on the amp meter on the engine instrument panel move to the right side? When I push on the glow plug switch, the meter moves to the left but when the engine is running the meter just stays in the middle on 0.

It would crank very well. Sometimes the engine would sputter, other times it would just not start at all and sometimes it would work great. I think the Walbro electric fuel pump is going out since it seems to turn on sometimes and not other times. The last couple of months I could hear the electric ...

intermittent stalling

I have the 5424 Universal engine and I am having problems with it running perfectly sometimes and other times it stalls or will runs at idle but will not increase in RPMs when I give it more throttle. The mechanic said it was a clogged fuel filter. He changed that but said that the old filter was no...

Angled, not bent

Thanks for all the replys. The mast is not bent aft, but rather angled aft. As the mast is all the way forward in the opening in the coach roof and still angling aft, adjusting the shrouds will not solve the problem. If I set the mast in the middle of the coach opening, the mast would be angled aft ...

mast base adjustment on 33

I have a 1981 CD 33 and the mast is raked aft but it is also set against the forward portion of the mast opening in the salon roof. Is the base, where the mast meets the keel, adjustable somehow? I need to move the mast base aft in order to straighten out the mast.

Toe rail attachment

I need to replace parts of my toe rail and rub rail. When I put on the new rails, should I reuse the old screw holes or place the screws so that they tap into fresh fiberglass?
