Growth

I find that I have to dive on my boat every other week to remove growth. If I were to let more than a month go by, which I did on one occasion, the growth becomes so onerous that the propeller is ineffectual because of the growth.

Having owned ships with wheels and ships with tillers I can definitely say that I prefer a tiller. I love the feedback and it makes self steering so much easier and cost effective. And when your electronic Autohelm, etc, fails due to salt corrosion you can always use the sheet-to-tiller method of se...

We use 15' of harness from the boat to the mooring at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron regardless of boat length. Check with whoever manages your mooring field, I'm sure that they specify a maximum length to control swing.

I own the Riggers Apprentice and, in fact, do all of my own splicing from mooring harness to halyards so I am familiar. A wire splice would be great, but I have this image of trying to repair a failed stay, in bad weather, with a splice and the picture is not pretty. Sarasota is a great place to rai...

Rigging Question

I am going to attempt, after all these years, to replace my standing rigging myself. The question? The relative strength between swag fittings and the staylock system. Which is stronger and less likely to failure. We are hoping to do a walkabout through the Caribbean on my CD25 and I am slowly prepp...

My CD25 has a connector at the base of the mast for the masthead lighting. Sounds like yours was modified for some reason.

I would cut holes in the cabin liner to mount the handrails. Because of the strength needed for these I would also be sure to have a good backing plate for each of the rails.

I, for one, still use my Sextant and then confirm my position with a hand-held GPS. Great practice , annnd, I don't have to worry about batteries and the like.

I have been considering changing over to external chainplates on my CD25 if I keep it. It will not only give a slightly larger platform for the shrouds/stays but will be easier to inspect and maintain. Just a thought.

That was my concern. The Yanmar seemed to be too small for the weight of the CD30K. Thanks for the input. Does anyone have an idea of the cost to repower the CD30K with an 18 horse engine?

CD 30 Ketch

God help me,,, I'm looking at another big ship! I considering a CD30 Ketch and want to know if there any issues with the model and I also have concerns about the 10HP Yanmar diesel that is standard. Is this engine of sufficient horse power for this craft? I have been known to be out and about when t...
