My CD31, #45, does have the additional ballast as described, covered with epoxy. From my memory, at that time, it was the owner's choice. Of course it sails points and sails well. Besides normal sailing, it would affect the capsize/knock down stability.

I replaced the Hiller with the 6000 on my CD31. Fit well and functions well. Removable top does close with adequate room. Actually I had to block out from side walls to the gimbal of the 6000 so there is plenty of side room (~1-1/2 inches) and gimbal room.

I think I remember running the sheet inside of the forward lower shroud, then running it between the upper and forward lower to the outside before leading it to the block. This was for a working jib.
