Where Is The Far Reach—Part II
Just took my departure from Beaufort Inlet. Sailed out past Ft Macon. Main and working jib. 60°F, Overcast. Winds about 12 knots from the SW. steering 150° mag. Speed about 6 knots. This is a singlehanded passage. The Far Reach and I were both ready to get back to sea.

Has anyone heard from John S. 
His last post on this board was a week ago, 03 Dec, when he sailed out of Beaufort Inlet.
He's lucky. The land weather around his home is snow, sleet, rain, ice, sleet, snow and same projected for tomorrow. Yuk

I surmise he’s headed for the Virgins which is 1,200+ miles. Ten days would be an incredible accomplishment. Fourteen days would be more realistic if the winds were favorable.Sea Hunt Video wrote:Has anyone heard from John S.

Hi everybody! Thanks for thinking about me. I made it to the BVI. Anchored today in Great Harbor Jost van Dyke after 12 days at sea.
I think it was a fast trip. It was five days faster than last time. I had a day of downwind work then the rest was upwind or very close reaching in a lot of wind. Only becalmed twice for a total of maybe 20 hours...I’ll check the log later and provide a more detailed summary. I had a couple 150+ mile days and a bunch or 140+ days. We were just tearing along.
I have to say the boat was just fantastic. She sailed great. Up wind or down wind. Early in the trip we must have had 40 knots downwind. I was sailing with only a double reefed stays’l! I was standing in the companionway looking aft at the seas and a couple waves coming up from behind just took my breath away. We were never pooped. Lot of spray on deck and water from hull slap etc. Normal stuff. I had a couple touch days at the beginning with mal de mar then got my sealegs finally.
Anyway, I’m going ashore for a much needed meal from AliBaba’s. I’m tired and expect a good nights sleep. I’m excited to be here.

Woo, Whoo! That seems like a pretty fine ride and now you find yourself in paradise. Not a bad deal at all. Have a great time with fair winds and awesome sunsets. Do a little snorkeling for me, Steve.
