Stainless steel....or is it?

Stainless steel....or is it?
Just a reminder to take a magnet with you when you are looking for a bargain priced piece of stainless hardware. Buying from a trusted source only, such as name brand suppliers, is the only other alternative. The rusty "stainless" ring has only been exposed to the salt air environment for four months. The Wichard replacement is truly stainless and should prove its real value over time.

Re: Stainless steel....or is it?
That thing got nasty fast!
When I redid my Amsteel splice I forgot to put the ring in the loop. Rather than redo the thing again I switched over to a shackle instead of a ring. It wasn't planned but I justified my lack of diligence by thinking that now I can disconnect the bungee cord and store it down below when the boat is laid up for the winter. This should help with sun damage, Steve.
