zinc for volvo MD7A/B engine ???????

Does anyone know if the volvo diesel MD7A/B engine has a sacrificial zinc ? I cannot find any.

I asked a mechanic about this at a diesel seminar. He said there isn't one. There is one in the water lift muffler.

There isn't one. I added a zinc holder to the raw water inlet line to make up for it. There is also one (small) in the cooling water heat exchanger. There wasn't one in the original stainless waterlift muffler from the factory. I have since replaced that with a fiberglass waterlift.

In my 7B the zinc is in the inboard lower end of the water lift muffler. Not a fun job on a 28 CD.

You can order a zinc pencil in-line holder made by Sendure. They make them in various sizes to fit different hose ID's and NPT pipe threads. Install it in the raw water feed hose between the raw water strainer and the engine. The zinc holder has a terminal on it for connection of a ground wire. Connect the ground wire to your common ground point. See below for Sendure address and info.
