stripped hex nut on stanchion

The hex nut on my aft portt stanchion is stripped. I would like to drill it out, but the coaming is too close for me to use my drill. Any suggestions?

Beg, borrow, or steal a 90 drill (I think the is the correct term)and see if it will fit!

Why not jam an "easy out" into the stripped hex nut. If you can find the right size, and if it will fit in the tight space you've got, I would think an "easy out" would bite right into the stripped hex nut. Then you'd be able to remove the old one and replace it.

Hi,
If you have room you may want to try cutting a slot into what's left of the hex head with a hacksaw or just a blade. Then use a flat screwdriver in the slot you made with the saw. An offset screwdriver may get in there if the space is really tight.
