That cold front is in the process of blowing through here right now, and it is a dilly! We have 40 kt gusts here, snow flurries. Poor old Grand Forks, N.D. has 12 inches of snow on the ground, with Interstate 94 closed. We are hoping to be on the northern fringes up at the boat..and here in Eau Claire, Wisc. we'll see flurries only..but lots of wind apparently. What a start for winter..%^)
I hope you guys all can appreciate your long seasons..we sure envy you..until summer anyway. Then we have a pretty fair sailing grounds to enjoy -real quickly! heh..

Good going on that stove Joe. Send her anytime, and I'll get a check out to you pronto.

Cheers,

Larry

However, I enjoyed spending the morning putting some finishing touches on new varnish (85 degrees; wind 10K) before a cold front comes through tonight. It's going down to the forties or something. Highs around 70 for the weekend. Tough duty, but I think I have to go sailing!

Believe it or not, I wish we could try to sail this wind with the new sail setup. Would love to know how well it handles 50+kts. which is what we designed the system for.

Mitchell,
You've got that right!! I guess the only time you have to winterize your boat around Washington DC is when Congress is away for winter recess!

Heh..evidence flying before my eyes right now says that snowperson making would be a better activity! It's blowing 30-50 kts outside, snowing and cold. Ladies and Gents..welcome to winter 2001.

And me with a boat yet to cover this weekend! Yipes.

Did I hear..."Snowperson" making??

Post by Warren Kaplan »

Larry,
A "traditionalist" like you ( I mean you do own a Cape Dory)has fallen prey to political correctness???? SnowPERSON! This, after the discussion we had a few months back right here on whether it was still okay to call our boats "her" and "she". The signs are ominous! DLM and Larry DeMers on the hard all of one week and already he has taken leave of his senses!! That's what happens when the horizon is always level!! Nothing like a rolling deck and 16 foot waves (which you evidently are craving)to bring a "Lakesfaring" man's psyche back into balance!

Warren,

You haven't seen my attempts to build a snowMAN! Hee, rediculous. Totally talentless. Now Jan (wife/partner and co captain of the good ship DLM) has artistic talent, and makes a rather fetching snowwoman, anatomically correct too. So by definition, my efforts are so generic in style that they truly are SnowPerson's.
Yup..I confirm it. I am already getting itchy for some sailing, and that effects everything else apparently. Brother, tis going to be a long one to wait thru.

Cheers and a short warm winter, (might as well throw in a wish for peace too)

At 1515 today, Lake Erie was making tall horses at 15.4 feet! Could be worse later. Check it out at:

heeling at the dock!

Post by Marino »

I know; my boat is heeling 10 degrees at the dock! This is the only time I like having a Mediterranean dock. I just added an extra stern and bow line to the west and one more spring and hope for the best. If the blocks hold the lines to the pilings, I'll be all right.

Otherwise it's claim time!
