Hello to All
I was wondering if anyone has ever removed the cabin sole of their boat. I would like to add some stowage beneath the sole and would be interested in knowing if the sole was glued to the fiberglass pan that is below it. I think it is (glued), but cant tell for sure.
Secondly, At some point in the future I will be adding a Ham radio to my boat. On the Icom site Gordon West suggest drill and tapping into the lead in the keel (from the bilge), leading a strip of foil and bolting it to the keel to use as a counterpoise. Any thoughts about drilling the Keel????
Thanks
Bill

Re: 25D Cabin Sole and Lead Keel Questions
Bill,
On my CD36 the strip of copper foil is attached to the inside bolt of the grounding plate. I presume that Cape Dory used the same grounding scheme for all of the models.

Tnx SteveSteve Alarcon wrote: Bill,
I am aware of the use of the dyna-plate for counterpoise, but West asserts that by using the lead in the keel, even though not actually exposed to saltwater, creats a great counterpoise.
I am just wondering if anyone has tapped and drilled the keel for this purpose?

Coquina's cabin sole seems to be screwed down -- at least it has some plugged holes in it.

Re: 25D Cabin Sole and Lead Keel Questions
I just pulled up the cabin sole on my CD 28 as it was delaminated. Removing all the screws (about 10 from the top and 12 from the bottom) did no good as it was held down with adhesive. It came apart as I pulled it up. I'll consider putting the new teak and holly down without as much adhesive.

Re: 25D Cabin Sole and Lead Keel Questions
Thanks Kevin
Folowing my posting I did a bit more investigation and found the fiberglass "subfloor" you found. I assume that it is bonded and as my sole is in good shape, thats one chore that will not be happening anytime soon.
Thanks
