Hard Tack

Anybody have a recipe for Hard Tack aka Pilot Bread? The one available via Ask Jeeves on the internet involves dates and nuts and is rolled in powdered sugar. I'm looking for a more authentic one than that. Anyone tried the canned version available from Yukon that's guaranteed to stay fresh for 10 + years?

Here's a link to the recipe that the Mariner's Museum in Norfolk, VA recommends.

BTW, I found this by using Copernic to search.
