I have a CD30B with a Universal M18 engine. It currently has a Michigan Sailer 13 x 8 right-hand prop. It has never motored much faster than 5 knots. As I’m now looking at the pic I took of it today, the “8” appears to be stamped over “10.” For the first time, as I’m looking at the pic, I’m now thinking the original prop was originally a 10 pitch and was re-pitched to 8. Does this make any sense to any CD 30 owners? And to other CD30 owners with the Universal M18, what prop are you turning?
Thanks,
Bob Ohler

Re: CD 30 prop size?
Hi Bob,
I have a Cape Dory 30 with a Volvo MD7A. It looks like the M18 is a 14HP motor, very similar to my Volvo MD7A 13HP. I recently bought a Campbell Sailer, 3-blade propeller. It is 13” with an 8.5 degree pitch. I get a little over 5 knots when pushing the engine near 85% maximum RPM. Props can be repitched if necessary.
I would contact West by North (https://westbynorth.com/campbell-sailer/) and see what they have to say. They are excellent and Kelsey was very helpful.

Re: CD 30 prop size?
Hi Bob,
I too have a 30B with the Universal M18. Purchased the boat in 2021 and am confident the prop is the original. It was reconditioned by H&H this past fall and shows it is clearly a 13 x 10 RH, 1” shaft. With a clean bottom etc the boat easily cruises 5.5 knots at about 2200-2300 rpm and burns about 1/3 gph.
Thanks
