Bronze Dyna-Palte and leaky bolts

Post by keneasley »

The work continues to get Felicity's bilge to be bone dry.
After replacing the thru-hulls and seacocks and resealing transducers other small leaks become apparent.

Yesterday I noticed some minor water that seems to come in through the bolts at the dynalplate.

Next winter I'll fix this.

Have others experienced similar leaks?
Has anyone removed the dyna-plate and rebedded it?
Is it necessary to completely remove it or can just the bolts be replaced and rebedded?
Would G-10 make a good backing board to replace the existing wood?

Thanks for the reply.

The 1/4" thick looks good to me.

Did you have to remove the dyna-plate or did you just replace the board on the interior with the G-10 and put sealant on the G-10 only ?

Yes i rebeded the plate since I was in the yard. I think I got all the seacocks and thru hulls now. I eliminated one transducer and the knot log twirly bird thing

I ended up replacing the backing board with a piece of 3/8" G-10.
Slightly easier to cut than 1/2'.
I cleaned up the old dynaplate with an angle-grinder fitted with a 120 grit floppy disk.
I used new silicon bronze bolts, nuts and washers from Fair Wind Fasteners.
I chamfered the holes in the hull where the bolts enter - the outside surface and the inside surface.
I used Sikalfex 291 on the hull and the bolt holes to bed the dynaplate.
Not too neat of a job but it doesn't leak a drop now.

Nice job. A little squeeze out is a good thing, a little more squeeze out is even better.

Nice work Ken. You can trim the squeeze out with a box cutter.
