Non-skid update

Post by Jim Walsh »

Orion is in the middle of having her non-skid refreshed. After 36 years it was more “contrasting color” and less “non-skid” if you get my drift. I am using Awlgrip polyester urethane topcoat base G6004 in Moondust. There is Griptex added and a hardener to allow application with a roller and brush. It was mixed by the local pro’s and I’m following their application recommendations closely so I don’t completely foul up this project. So far I’m pleased. We have had a few unusually warm days but the dew has been quite heavy which caused the masking tape removal to be more of a challenge than I need. Some tape residue will have to be dealt with once the paint is fully cured.

There is still some heavy dew visible but this section is complete.

We were working on the same project today. But I only get one quart of Kiwi Grip at a time. It is all my knees can stand in a day. Dennis

Excellent work Jim.

If you have not used it I recommend 3M 233 tape. Not too expensive. Solvent resistant to all kinds of solvents. It’s the only tape I use unless I need something that barely sticks to the surface.

Stunning photo Fred. Yes, Cetol on all the brightwork. Refinished it in September as noted here http://www.capedory.org/board/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=37541
