Mike:

As I am sure you know, Sally just increased to Cat. 2 (100 mph) at 1700 EDT advisory. Probably will increase to Cat. 3 (above 110) later tonight or tomorrow a.m. because it is moving very slowly now (6 mph).

Captain Hook it looks like NOLA may be spared the worst of Sally as NOLA takes on the west side of her - assuming, of course, current projected course and speed. Of course, it does not help NOLA's situation that "Jimmy C." booked motel rooms around NOLA. Like Mike said, you may want to "run like hell". That would be my advise to Mike at this point.

As Mike well knows, this is a classic Gulf waters hurricane. The water is very, very warm; the movement is very slow and the system has both the time and the incentive to increase in strength. Sally went from a weak TS to a major H in less than 36 hours.
Fair winds,

Roberto

Roberto,

No plans to leave... but we will probably have a lot of clean up to do next week.
Here's a status from 1600 CDT. Notice the back & forth "centers" as Sally rebuilt.
The red dot is more or less where GGYC and KAYLA are located.

Mike:

Wow :!: :!: You are really close. Yesterday morning early NHC/NOAA had eye moving over NOLA tomorrow a.m. Then, as your really nice chart shows, speed slowed a lot and it did a couple of "herky jerky" (technical meteorological term  ) moves in a few hours and now NOLA looks good or at least better.

Scary, but if Sally makes another "herky jerky" move east overnight (or within the next 24 hrs) S/V Kalya could experience some Cat. 2 winds and nasty storm surge.

Hunker down and make sure you have your "hurricane medicine" (Guinness) safely secured in a cooler packed with ice. :D :D
Fair winds,

Thanks, Roberto, but Guinness is too fattening for me... on KAYLA, it's lots of Miller Lite and off the boat mostly red wine... :D
As the beast (aka: bitch?) is moving so slow, we're expecting a bump to at least cat-3 before making landfall.
The bayou at GGYC is currently up about 2.5 feet and could see surges of +4 feet.
At this point, everything is "life"... as in:

I fear that my old port of Mobile Bay will be flooded. almost like when Katrina came thru. I hope i am wrong but the amount of rain and wind looks to be excessive. agree that Guinness is a good idea.

Yep! We got a bit of water rise at GGYC...
Water is up about 3~4 feet from normal level.
All of our docks are under water now.

Mike,

Let me know if you need a hand with anything. I’m on the other side of the Rocky Bayou bridge, so literally 5 minutes away. My CD30 is sitting on Eglin at Post’l Point and I have no idea how she’s doing. I’m sure their docks are underwater as well.

David,
Thanks! At this point I think we've things under control. The real "fun" will be the clean up!
I live across the street from GGYC and will go back down in a while to check things again.

Well the dock at Post’l Point is 1 foot under water. I loosened the dock lines, but I won’t be back to check the boat until the storm has moved on.

I just got back from taking a look...
20200915_133003.jpg
(that's my son Austin standing on a chopping block that "floated" away from the stove.)
Lots of water and more to come. KAYLA, LEGASEA and the Catalina 22 seem to be doing fine.
Capt Don has tide rollers set up for LEGASEA and KAYLA's spring lines can go another foot or 2.
I'll have to get down there as soon as the water starts to recede to ease the springs down the pilings!

Yep, we dodged a bullet.

I watching the 9 pm news and it sounds like the track keeps shifting to the east. Hope you don't have problems.

The one good thing is that Sally is not as strong as previously predicted.
