I rummaged through my boxes of parts I removed from the Far Reach and found the diesel fill deck fitting. I kept it thinking there would come a day.....

Needs a new o-ring but other than that it should be good to go.

Still looking for the bronze fuel vent with flame retardant screen.

I found them! They will clean up like new.

So they shall! Quality bronze hardware is the best. The bug screens are still intact also.....I use a toothbrush on mine once a year in the spring. Hull wax tends to find its way onto the screen....or spider webs.

1. Assuming you have (or will have) one fuel tank on S/V Far Reach why two fuel vents :?:

2. Where exactly are these fuel vents installed :?:

Not at all. I had two. Found them both. But I only need one for the diesel tank. The kerosene tank in the starboard locker has a vent that works perfectly—a Pardey style vent that I made from copper tube. No desire to change it.

I plan to install the diesel vent in the transom just below the fantail. Which is where it was originally. Heeling, to include a knock down, should keep it out of the water...and it will have a loop in it as well. I considered making a vent for the diesel tank similar to the one for the kerosene tank but I think the spartan vent with the flame screen meets ABYC standards...even if I loath cutting a hole in the transom.

It’s been 17 days since we had an update......delirium tremens are a real threat at this point.

Well, you asked....
-I signed off on the CAD drawings for the fuel tank emailed to me by Florida Marine Tanks. Very nice folks. Supposed to be ready for pick up at the end of the month. They are in Henderson, NC—yes, I know....Florida. :roll: Installing the tank is the trigger for ordering the Beta engine.
-Bought some African mahogany to start milling the staving for the front of the engine box as well as building a new frame for the 12v panel as part of its relocation.
-Located but have not purchased some iroko for the rub-rail.
-The brass electric Nav lights arrived so I have been fiddling with them and sorting how/where to install them. Got lots of great advice on the forum about how to think about converting them to LED.
-I built and installed the ridge pole to strengthen the boat cover.
-I spent all week grading essays from my Command and Staff College Seminar regarding the their views on the future of the Maritime Prepositioning Force in light of the development of new Anti-Access/Area Denial weapons systems.
-And I’ve been tinkering with starting a small business/LLC teaching folks how to improve their sailing and boat handling skills and perhaps doing some consulting to help people simplify their boats and prepare for offshore voyages. I’m still mulling it over to see if it’s viable. I recently received my OUPV, Master Merchant Mariner credentials, and USCG issued Sailing Endorsement so it all kind of fits together if I want to go that route. Not sure what I want this idea to look like.

In short, I’m doing what everyone else is doing, staying busy through the dark drab winter....

Actually, I feel like I am barely moving now. Just. Have. To. Keep. Moving. Forward. LOL. I’ll gain some momentum soon.

I’m interested to hear about the performance of your refrigeration and see some pics and get a report on Steve L’s hard dodger. All very neat projects that I bet a lot of folks are interested in.

I am so looking forward to launch day, now just 10 weeks or less, so I can actually put my refrigeration to actual use. I also have a punch list of items I’ve been working on while on the hard. Over the last couple days I’ve been splicing up a new set of lazy jacks. This time around I’m using Amsteel dyneem. I’ve used it for my topping lift and it has worked fine.
Steve has done a fine job on his hard dodger.....he might reveal it here once his patent is granted.

Where did you get the amsteel dyneem? I need to replace my toping lift as well.

I’m not Jim, but I usually purchase Amstel blue (in grey) from Jamestown distributor. You get it at West Marine though it cost more. Defender sells it. Easy to find. If you purchase some extra length it’s great for making shackles and endless loops.

All I can add is that it’s simple to splice since it has no core. This is a link to a YouTube video that I think is the easiest demonstration of how to splice this material.
