Typhoon toe rail scupper placement / size.
Hi. Hull No. 6 here. Previous owner replaced the toe rails, but didn't drill/cut in any scuppers. Any suggestions on placement? Where is the low spot on the boat for the center scupper, how far between them, what size to make them? I've looked at a lot of Typhoon photos and there seems to be quite a bit of variation from boat to boat. Thanks, Stephen.

Here's one arrangement. I'm not at the boat to measure them precisely, but the scuppers are roughly 3/4" to 1" wide. Most of the draining seems to happen at the forward two scuppers. My impression is that the aft two don't do much.

Re: Typhoon toe rail scupper placement / size.
Our toe rails only have 3 holes. Which ones get the water flow depends on how the boat is trimmed. Mostly this matters on the trailer on uneven ground, but could also be an issue in the water with different gear stowage arrangements (especially the outboard) or if you are adventurous enough to sleep in the V-berth.
Sorry, the winches and cleats, which you could use as reference locations, haven't been re-attached in this photo (taken just after finishing varnish work) but you can see where they should be from the darker spots on the teak.

Re: Typhoon toe rail scupper placement / size.
I have an older Typhoon that has 5/16" scupper holes that are worse than useless. Raven, a CD-30 has 3/8" X 1&1/2" scuppers that are somewhat better. They still clog easily, with the least bit of debris or fish scales. If I was making up new toe rails I would go with 1/2" X 1&1/2" scuppers. If the water gets that high that it comes in, when sailing, it is probably past time to reef and it is going to be topping the toe rail anyway. With larger scuppers it would leave faster and be far less prone to clogging. This would be most useful with a boat that spends time on the hard where there may be more debris that land on deck and create a loss of drainage. I would love to add a few more scuppers to Raven. You can't have too much drainage for the decks, Steve.

Thank you!
Ended up looking at a few hundred photos, estimated distances, and made three each side.
About 5/16" high x 1" long, spaced similarly to as shown on your photos.
Not entirely symmetrical due to not wanting to encroach on toe rail fasteners.
And thank you for your messages - I may even launch her before the end of the season!
