Scraping the old gasket or is a time consuming job. I found a small brass tool in my dads workbench that works very well. Without that, I would get a sturdy stainless dinner knife and use a grinder to round it off to fit the diameter of the port where the gasket goes. Sand it down, you don’t want any burrs.
Once the old gasket is scraped out, I cut the McMaster gasket a bit long, and then I apply contact cement to the gasket and the port. When dry,
Carefully lay in the gasket around the port, I start at the top, and finish at the top. I angle the cut, and pull it a bit to stretch it, make the cut with scissors and squeeze it in. So far, no leaks. The old gasket was pretty hard and needed replacing.

A wire wheel in a drill works really well.

a little silicone grease can extend the life of those gaskets tremendously.
