Oil/Trans Fluid Change Pump recommendation?

Post by AMcC »

Anyone have an oil/trans fluid change pump recommendation for my Cape Dory 25D? (Yanmar 1GM and associated (Hurth?) trans). If anyone has a photo of the perfect engine compartment permanent mounting place, that would be helpful - or should I not mount it?

All suggestions/tales of experience appreciated.

I have had this for many years and it has always worked perfectly. Not having a built-in version never bothered me. Plus you dont need to look for a waste oil container.

Its a little small, but they make a bigger size.

My oil pan has a drain hose, but I still find this to be much faster for engine oil extraction.

I will UN-recommend the green horizontal ones. I had a "Marina-Pro" brand one that lasted all of one season. The pump part failed and the rebuild kit cost almost as much as the whole thing, I did like the small size.

I now have a "Tempo Oil Boy" that has worked well for about 8 years.

Thanks. The West Marine 2.9 Qt pump looks perfect. I only have a Yanmar 1GM, so not much oil in there...

I modified my pump to include a piece of straightened copper refrigeration tubing. It is perfect for getting to the bottom of the transmission case. I drain the crankcase oil and then go right to the transmission. It makes for a nice job.
