Water coming up rudder shaft tube.

Water coming up rudder shaft tube.
Recently purchased a CD28.
It appears that that the stern lays deeper in the water, below the waterline, while under power.
As a result water splashes/trickles out the rudder shaft tube.
Anyone have any thoughts on the cause and/or solution.

My 28 does the same thing. One could always put in a drip less on the rudder shaft but I keep storage forward. CD 30 has a packing similar to the prop shaft.

Re: Water coming up rudder shaft tube.
After I had my new prop, shaft, motor mounts and cutless bearings installed and I took Creme Brulee for a test run with the engine wide open, I noticed the same thing. It is apparently normal.

my 27 does this too, mostly under power - it's not a lot of water - barely enough to get to the scuppers

Re: Water coming up rudder shaft tube.
After recore'ing my cockpit I left the teak plate off the rudder post...I liked the look better and didn't want to keep refinishing it due to water splashing on it. Not much water and I get it only under certain conditions...heavy weather and following seas most generally.

Re: Water coming up rudder shaft tube.
As Joe said, it's normal when motoring. I've never noticed it otherwise.

Re: Water coming up rudder shaft tube.
Happens on my 28 always under full throttle. Thought it might be because of the heavier Md2B engine and 3 blade prop.
