Freshening up the old pedestal

Finally got around to making my old pedestal presentable again this past August. Here are the before and after photos. I spent one afternoon sanding the pedestal by hand to remove as much of the original finish as was deemed practicable by the guy doing the sanding, me. I then masked as necessary and brushed on a coat of aluminum primer. The following morning I lightly sanded the primer and applied a coat of Interlux Brightside. Late in the afternoon I applied a second coat. Certainly not perfect nor as professional looking as a sprayed finish but still a vast improvement. You'll notice I chose Bristol Beige over the original white. I like it, and when you stand back far enought it looks flawless

Good looking project Jim! What brand of aluminum primer did you use? How did you like using the Interlux Brightside for this job? I have read of some people getting good results with plain old Rustoleum.

Thanks for the complement. I used Rustoleum Latex Aluminum Primer. The Brightside was fine. I didn't want to repeat the exercise any sooner than necessary so I went with something specifically formulated for the harsh marine environment. The Rustoleum product may be fine but I didn't care to experiment.

Here's a photo, after all the hand sanding, with two coats of the Rustoleum primer applied. I applied two coats of the Brightside also, as can be seen in the previous photo.
