Protip: before you disassemble and reassemble the head, you may want to check whether the thru hull isn't completely obstructed by marine growth...

There must be a backstory to this comment. The only way to check obstruction of the through-hull that I can think of would be to disconnect hose from seacock (or head) and crack the valve briefly to verify flow of seawater. Any other way?

There's a broader principle at play here and there are many examples. Do the easy/inexpensive trouble-shooting first, even if going that route is less likely to identify the cause.

You mean like when the mower will not start you should check to see if there is any gas in there?

Sometimes the solution is so obvious that it isn't even considered to be a possible problem, Steve.

The fellow in the next slip climbed his mast a couple of weeks ago to change a perfectly good light bulb. Perhaps he should have started troubleshooting at the electrical panel or at the base of the mast.
