zinc for cd 330
Any suggestions for zincs for cd 330. I'm in a location where there is a lot of deterioration of my zincs. Last year I had a collar in front of the prop and a perry nut that is no longer available.
Has anyone tried the Camp cc/cn 3/4 -10 2 inch length or can you recmmend something that will fit aft of the prop and have some clearance for the front of the rudder.
Thank you
Rod Croes

Sources of shaft and prop zincs.....
Hi Everybody,
This question came up the other day while we were down at the boat yard and I replied via email but I guess it's a good idea to include it as part of this thread, so I've just copy/pasted then modified it in my response below:

- The company that manufactured Perry Nuts is long out of business, so you won't find any Perry Nuts. Use Camp zincs instead.
Make sure you purchase the proper sized collar, egg or prop nut. Most Cape Dorys have a 1" shaft and use a 3/4" nut with 10 threads to the inch. If you want the 1" collar, it is Camp Part# C-3. You can have a marine chandlery order the proper zincs for you if they don't have them in stock. It's easier to find the collars than it is to find the prop nuts.
You may want to contact Camp and verify exactly which prop zinc will fit your boat.
Here's Camp's web site: http://www.campcompany.com/
and the link to their catalog: http://www.campcompany.com/pleasurecraft.zip The link is to a ZIP file. If you can't open the file, you can download WINZIP from Camp's web site as well.
These prop zincs should fit your shaft:
Page 16 (Prop nut):- P-3&4 (part# for zinc only), PN-3&4 (part# for brass nut kit only), 1" & 1-1/8" (shaft diameters), 3/4-10 (thread size)
[This is the closest equivalent to a "Perry nut".]
Page 18 (Prop nut):- CC (part# for zinc only), 2" (zinc outside diameter), CN (part# for brass nut kit only), 1" & 1-1/8" (shaft size), 3/4-10 (thead size)
Page 19 (Acorn Nut):- ZPC-1 (part#), 3/4-10 (thread size), 2-1/8" (length), 1-1/2" (width)
ZPC-2 (part#), 3/4-10 (thread size), 2-15/16" (length) 1-7/8" (width) [check first that length will fit]
ZPC-3 (part#), 3/4-10 (thread size), 3-1/16" (length), 2-7/32" (width) [check first that length will fit]
If you opt to use the Camp CC prop nut and you've never used one before, you must buy the complete "kit" which includes the zinc anode, the brass nut and the hex bolt.
If you need to contact CAMP directly, they can be contacted at:

Here are some links to online stores where you can purchase Camp zincs:
Defender Industries: http://www.defender.com/ (limited selection, but search on keywords "camp zinc")
Ship'sStore.com:- http://www.shipstore.com/SS/HTML/CAM/CAMCC.html (zinc only)
http://www.shipstore.com/SS/HTML/CAM/CAMCN.html (nut kit only)
http://www.shipstore.com/SS/HTML/CAM/CAMZPC1.html (acorn nut)
http://www.shipstore.com/SS/HTML/CAM/CAMZPC2.html (acorn nut)
http://www.shipstore.com/SS/HTML/CAM/CAMZPC3.html (acorn nut)
Starboard Supply:- http://www.starboardsupply.com/product_ ... id/3010835 (zinc only)
http://www.starboardsupply.com/product_ ... id/3010842 (nut kit only)
And don't forget the link that 'moctrams' provided for:
http://boatzincs.com/
they are Camp zincs.
There are others, just search/Google for "Camp zinc" and the part number, e.g., Camp prop zinc CC. - P-3&4 (part# for zinc only), PN-3&4 (part# for brass nut kit only), 1" & 1-1/8" (shaft diameters), 3/4-10 (thread size)

If you are someplace where you go through a lot of zincs, you can save yourself a lot of diving by adding additional zinc while you are in the slip to keep your prop zinc from vanishing so fast. Simply buy one of those large hull zincs, attach SS wire to it, drop it in the water and attach the other end of SS wire to some grounded point, such as one of your stays. Whenever in your marina put this in and pull it out of the water when you leave. Your prop zinc will last longer, and even when its gone for good this will still protect your boat so you can be lazy about diving down to change it. You can also buy a premade zinc "grouper" that does this.

Re: Perry Nuts
As Cathy pointed out, Perry Nuts are no longer manufactured, so prop zincs like Camp are now what you see in catalogs.moctrams wrote:You can but Perry Nuts at this web site:

Re: Web site for perry Nuts
If you purchase zincs from Boatzincs.com, you're purchasing Camp zincs. So yep, it's a good place to get'em.

"Perry Nut" for the CD31
I have had good luck with the following Perry Nut zinc on my CD31.......
http://www.boatzincs.com/p-3.html
This goes over the end of the propeller holding nut and is held in place by a retaining castle nut (wired or carter pinned)at the end of the shaft. Instructions are given from the web page above. Closest thing I have found to the original.

CAMP #ZPC1 works well on CD30
Camp makes three sizes of the prop nut zincs. I use the ZPC1 on our CD30. Larger CD's might be able to use the ZPC2 or ZPC3. I once saw a boatyard mechanic cut down a shaft collar zinc on a lathe and install it on a CD25D between the "deadwood" and the prop.

Zincs, zincs, they're everywhere.....
Boatzincs.com is a great source for zinc anodes and they have them available from 3 different manufacturers:
Other online sources for nothing but sacrificial zinc anodes, similar to Boatzincs.com, are USAzincs.com and Zincwarehouse.com.

Magnesium for fresh water
Fresh water sailors should be aware that Magnesium is the "zinc" that you want.

Bly's right.
Boatzincs.com, USAzincs.com and Zincwarehouse.com have zinc, magnesium and aluminum sacrificial anodes made by all the same manufacturers mentioned above. Be sure to get the right zinc for the job -- size (shaft diameter), type (collar, shaft, prop, etc.), material (zinc, magnesium, aluminum).
