Replacing a stove in my 30ft cutter

Could use some help

Was looking on replacing my stove , I have been looking at the following.

1. Seaward princess Euro 2 burner
2. Tasco 2 burner

Both would be propane.

Anyone?

Hi Richard,

We've got a gimballed Tasco (Taunton Stove Co.) 2-burner propane stove/oven combo (# 550LP-SS) on our CD32. It does the job.

I replaced "Gabbi's" old stove with the Origo Non-Pressurized, 2 Burner Stove With Oven. I even bake bread in it. I did not have room for the propane tank and the Origo "fit like a glove".

Can you tell me where you placed the propane tank( inside or out).
And did you install a fan ?

I've been happy with the Origo 2 Burner (without the oven). It's supplemented by the Forespar Mini-galley.

Hi Richard,

Our CD32 came factory-equipped with a propane stove and propane locker. The propane locker is located on the starboard side, aft, in the cockpit. The locker is sealed off from the rest of the boat and is vented overboard. We have fans, but no bilge fan. The hose is protected -- it's inside another hose. And we do the old soap test on the fittings each spring.

You have to replace the burners and air orifices on the stove as well as the pressure regulator. So you'll have to contact the stove manufacture and ask if they have a conversion kit.

You probably only need to replace the orifice(s).

If you have a Force 10 stove, it should be easy. They provide the same stove as CNG or LPG. They will have a kit to convert and it should be inexpensive. For other vendors, the experience seems to be more problematic. Contact the manufacturer.

I believe Joe is correct in that only the orifices need to be changed to smaller ones for LP. The regulator will also have to be changed. LP pressure runs at about 11" of water column, whereas natural gas runs 5-6". I believe your burners can remain the same.

I have CNG Seward Princess three burner with oven that came with my boat. I bought the conversion kit for propane. I'll have to see what I have, the stuff is still in the box. I think I have new burners, which I needed because the old ones were shot, new orifices, and a new thermocoupler. I think I needed the orvices and thermocoupler to change over--but honestly I don't remember. I worked with the folks at Seward and they were helpful. The stove should be going into the boat sometime next fall and I'll make the conversion then.

Thanks for the info! It's not n urgent item on our list (yet...) just curious about the possibilities, cost, etc. The stove & oven are apparently original (circa 1972) but look totally unused. The manufacturer was Gas Systems Inc. When we get to that point, I may be lucky and find that generic orifices work... and maybe not, but such is life.
