Hello Cathy:

I apologize. I did not mean to offend anyone or detract from the excellent resources provided on this board of Cape Dory brochures, manuals, etc. which I know took a lot of time and effort to collect, upload, etc. They have been, and continue to be, very helpful to me.

I posted this other website for two reasons. First, just because I was surprised I found it :!: I have been doing Google searches for several years for Cape Dory sailboats and never found this site before. I am not sure how I found it this time. Second, I thought it might possibly augment the CDSOA website. If I recall correctly, most of the brochures and manuals currently on the CDSOA website are black and white whereas most (possibly not all) of the brochures on this other website are in color. I thought this would be interesting and helpful especially for old-fashioned guys like me who want to try to keep things on our CDs as original as reasonably possible. Because these brochures are in color they provide us (perhaps only me) with a visual color reference for some deck and hull colors, cabin colors, upholstery, teak or other wood colors, etc.

I have a 9-year old DELL computer (my very first computer :) ) and a cheap 8-year old Lexmark printer. As a test, I printed out two pages of CD 25D literature - one with mostly cabin photos, the other with mostly writing (specs, etc.). I enlarged the photos about 200% before printing. Both pages printed with surprising clarity and sharpness. The photos show colors very well and the letters and numbers have very little “fuzzinessâ€

Hi Sea Hunt,

You didn't offend anybody and why would you think that? I just want everyone to know that we've got most of them right here, they're full size, and at least readable. (I actually have a few more and just haven't gotten around to scanning them.)

Why not place the photos in a separate area of this site?

Post by Bob Ohler »

Cathy,

Rather than a one mile long thread for photos, could we set-up a separate area on the CDSOA site specifically for the photos?

Just an idea. I have seen it done on other sites and it works great.

Excellent idea Bob! Yes, Lats & Atts for one has a separate "Photos" forum.

So, count this as a second on the motion... ;-)

Cape Dory Eye Candy forum....

This is off-topic (the topic is online brochures), but ask and ye shall receive. There's a new forum just for photos -- check it out. This doesn't mean you can't include photos in any posting, you can and please do.

If any diehard CD trivia fans are still listening, I noticed that the 30K photos in the multi-product brochures show photos of a CD30K with 4 ports, and another CD30K with 5 ports. These are actual photos rather than line drawings so the boats were definitely built that way. As far as I know the factory never offered an option on how many ports to include, so the decision was at the plant level. If Dave Perry reads this, I'd be interested to learn more of the history of the 30K and 36K.

Cape Dory ports

Post by David Perry »

There were a few changes in the number of ports a Cape Dory model might have. The first C-27 had 4 ports, but it was determined that the look was too busy. All others had 3. The first 6 or 7 C-30's had 5 ports, and all of these were ketches as the cutter had yet to be introduced. The 36 was first shown on a brochure as a ketch, and with 4 ports. But when introduced she had 5 ports and a cutter rig. If some of the drawings on the brochures look a little "less than professional" it is because I drew them.

1977 brochure showing CD36 as a ketch....

Post by Cathy Monaghan »

Dave Perry sent me a page from the Preview Brochure for the Cape Dory 36. It's probably from 1977 and it's introducing the new CD36 model which was finally introduced in 1978. Dave, did I get that right? Anyway, CLICK HERE to see it. Note the ketch rig and the 4 ports.

This preview page is also now available in the "Groups & Publications" area in the "Where to Look" section of this web site as well as on the specs page for the CD36.

Thanks Dave,
Cathy
