Re: Typhoon halyards & jib sheets

I don't know if anyone is still checking this particular discussion, but I am a relatively new Typhoon Weekender owner, and I have been perplexed by my boat's halyard/cleat arrangement. We've been using the small horn cleats on P and S sides of the mast for the jib (P) and main (S) halyards, but thi...

Re: Typhoon chainplates

Thanks, Ben. We took the mast down the other day and removed both deck plates and all four bolts. While all three of the other bolts still looked okay, we're going to replace all four just to be sure. I still can't figure out how our mast stayed up on some windy and very choppy starboard tacks (we s...

Re: Typhoon chainplates

Hello. I am hoping someone is still checking this string. Our 1974 Ty Weekender's deck mounted chainplate for the starboard upper and lower stays failed while we were sailing the boat yesterday (fortunately, we were able to sail back in on port tack). The forward most of the two through deck bolts s...

Re: New member with a few Typhoon questions.

Our 1974 Weekender had a vang installed when we took ownership two years ago. However, it is less effective than we would like. It's a conventional 4-1 arrangement with a small fiddle block and cam at the boom end for making adjustments. Running from the underside of the book, perhaps three feet or ...

Re: Typhoon cabin top fairleads

Has anyone tried swapping out the Typhoon jib fairleads for ratcheting blocks on t-track cars? Currently on our 1974 Typhoon Weekender, I have our jib sheets running through an "eye" type fairlead (that came standard I assume) on a short t-track and back to small cam cleats I've installed ...

Re: Typhoon MOB Gear

Thanks, Carl. I have considered one of those bags. I didn't think they included any sort of floatation device though. Do you keep a throwable cushion or ring tied to the line?

Typhoon MOB Gear

Hi. We sail our Typhoon in Monterey Bay off Santa Cruz, where the conditions can me more like the open ocean at times, and we therefore want to be prepared should someone go overboard. What are other Typhoon sailors using to fulfill the USCG's requirement of having a Type IV throwable device? And wh...

Re: Typhoon compression post

We bought a 1974 Typhoon Weekender (hull #600) last spring, and we are working on various repairs. Though the neither the cabin top around the mast step nor the areas where the cabin meets the foredeck show any cracking, the foredeck sags significantly over the last foot or so (moving aft) back to w...
