Re: Removing W 21A from Cape Dory 30 MK II
Hey Stevo, what will you do with the old W21A? I'd be interested in buying it. I've got a cousin in Boston who could pick it up. I sent you a PM a few days ago. Please let us know how everything's going with the new engine. Enjoy your weekend!

Re: Removing W 21A from Cape Dory 30 MK II
The head has been redone and the injection pump and injectors are rebuilt. The low compression on my engine was caused by stuck rings. The cylinders were a bit rusted but cleaned up OK. I believe the hours meter because this bought sat for 13 years because the owner died and his son just kept it. Th...

Re: Replacing Engine Mounts on CD30 MkII
These engine are not really sleeved. They sell sleeves for them but you'd have to have the engine bored to make room for them. As I understand it, the sleeves are unfinished so you'd still need machine shop work to ensure they are round with the correct piston clearance. I'll be measuring for this w...

Re: Replacing Engine Mounts on CD30 MkII
Thanks Steve but removing the engine from the boat is not an option. I've removed the oil pan and can easily remove the end caps. With the shaft disconnected, it took very little lifting with a crow bar and very little blocking to get the engine high enough to do this and I was able to leave all of ...

Replacing Engine Mounts on CD30 MkII
Hello Folks, I'm still working on the old Westerbeke W21A and need to raise the engine enough to remove the oil pan and con rod end caps for piston removal. The engine was seized due to rust on the cylinder walls. The head's been redone, injectors and injection pump redone by Everglades Diesel Servi...

Re: AC Installation
My boat came with a Cruise Air unit that fits over the hatch above the main cabin. The controls are on the bottom of the unit so you can control it from inside. I think they are out there on the used market. Mine works great but I'll never use it. Not sure of model numbers right now but I've seen th...

Re: Replacing Engine Intake Seacock - Advice Appreciated
To the OP I would say don't feel too bad about what you did or didn't do. That shaft has the look of "chrystalized" bronze or brass. The black staining indicates it's been there for a while. I've seen brand new propellers throw a blade with exactly this look. I'm not sure what causes it or...

Re: CD 30 Mk II Cabin Window Replacement
No curve that I can see. Cannot see a way to replace from the outside. No caulking to remove. From the outside, it appears to be a solid fiberglass border/flange. Anybody with actual experience working on this issue? Thanks, Dan

Re: CD 30 Mk II Cabin Window Replacement
Thanks for the confirmation Gonesail. Hard rain and wind are keeping me off the boat today. Time for some reverse engineering. Any thoughts sincerely appreciated.

Re: CD 30 Mk II Cabin Window Replacement
Well, I will certainly take a much closer look tomorrow but I'm pretty sure there are no plugs. I looked for small "pins" that might have been used. I believe they are glued in. I really don't want to damage the frames OR the surrounding teak. I may try a heat gun. Thank you for the reply ...

Re: CD 30 Mk II Cabin Window Replacement
Aah, but they ARE leaking and have been for a while it appears. They are also "crazed" with fine lines all through them. I'd like to change them (along with the Bowmar hatches) to a bronze tinted Lexan or other plastic with strong UV protection. Thank you for the reply!
