Re: I Wish...
Nice photo. I'm struck by how the trees have full leaves on December 3rd. In PA our trees have all lost there leaves by then.

Re: Gel Coat Stains Below Portlights
Tom, looking at your photo again, I'd also suggest Finesse-it on your portlight glass. It should clean off the film shown in the photo. When applying, rub in well, feel and see it work. If you need more, apply more and really rub it well. A spray water bottle can help keep the process moving smoothl...

Re: Gel Coat Stains Below Portlights
Tom I'd try polishing with 3m Finesse-it polish. I'm wondering if what you have been using somewhat opens the pores on the gelcoat, allowing it to accumulate future dirt more quickly and thoroughly. As you probably know polish is a fine abrasive contained in a cream. Compound is an even more aggress...

Managing Fuel Over The Winter
With winter upon us, I was able to knock out one of the many winterizing jobs on our Cape Dory 24 Trawler, which was pumping the diesel fuel tank. I know the debates over whether to empty a fuel tank or fill it over the winter. Because we store our boat indoors, climate controlled, for us the answer...

Re: Diesel Jug Recommendation
John the Tractor Supply spout kits I have used work great. Same as the old style fuel cans with regular spouts and vents. The only issue is you want to install the vent at a high point in the can that stays high as you pour. regarding those siphon arrangements, I use a hand pump to drain my engine o...

Re: Diesel Jug Recommendation
John if you find a jug you like, except for the EPA guaranteed-to-spill-spout, Tractor Supply sells replacement spout kits that can turn the jug back into a reliable tool to carry and transfer fuel. The kit contains a vent that you can install into the jug, but that vent needs the right can geometry...

Re: Nice vessel
Very nice boat. That is a C-Dory, not a Cape Dory, but similarly classic, salty appearance. If I recall correctly the C-Dory's are flat bottom (or nearly so) boats. Always thought they looked nice but wondered about that flat bottom ride in chop.

Thanks. We put some work into her, but happily she had good DNA to start with.

Re: Speaking of the 24
My wife and I have CD 24 Trawler hull 007 built in 1984. We purchased her in the Chesapeake area in 2003 (I think). It's a great boat.
