Re: CD28 / Volvo MD7A propeller sizing
I just sent a request for propeller size to westbynorth.com for a 3-blade Campbell sailer for the MD7A. I’ll post as soon as I get a reply.

Re: CD28 / Volvo MD7A propeller sizing
Hi Phillip, From what I can tell, the prop for an MD7A on the CD30 is between a 12LH9 2 blade on the small side to a 13LH12 3 blade on the larger size. I would think it would be the same for the CD28. This is based off of my searching the archive for those that either had a prop replaced or had the ...

Re: S/V Ethan Grey - water in the bilge
We’ll, here’s my update (also on the Cape Dory Fans Facebook page). This is all speculation, but I think I figured it out. It looks like the deadwood area where the shaft log exits on my CD30 had been cutaway to allow for a Max Prop and anode. This may have resulted in the holes for the set screws t...

Re: Fiberglass recommendations
Looking at the picture I took yesterday, there appears to be a small opening just below the shaft log. This could be the entry point. Here’s to hope.

Fiberglass recommendations
3CB04B85-31A1-41F6-8481-53BAF5791DCA.jpeg Fiberglass recommendations, please. I believe I have a leak coming in from around my stern tube. From what I can tell, the stern tube is not cracked. Looking at the photos now, it looks like someone tried a quick fix by pouring epoxy down the back wall (you...

MD7A hoisting locations
From what I can tell there is one lifting eye on the MD7A. However the manual talks about a lifting eye on the reverse gear, “use the lifting eyes mounted on the engine/reverse gear when lifting the drive unit” (page 4 of the service manual). Can anyone tell me where this is? Are there any lifting e...

Re: Stern tube damage
Thanks guys. Do you know if they removed the goop back there and filled the void with fiberglass or just glassed over the goop? From what I can tell, there is the transom, then a void which is filled with some kind of goop, and then there should be another layer of fiberglass. This inner layer of fi...

Re: Stern tube damage
JD-MDR, jbenagh or Mike Thompson, do you have any more photos of your shaft log replacement? Unfortunately I am in the same predicament and need to get mine repaired. You can email or PM me, or post them here. I’m open on any recommendations, or useful advice on this. Also, should anyone have any re...

Re: Differences between CD 27, 28, and 30?
I think many, if not all of the CD30's have pedestal steering, which takes up quite a bit of cockpit room. Probably great for offshore, but I'd rather have a tiller and more space. I'll be looking to convert mine to a tiller soon. I really like the size of my CD30, it's like a mini apartment on the ...

Re: What material used in my hatches?
Well, it only took me a year from order to actual replacement, but it is finally done. It wasn't too difficult and the results are fantastic, if I do say so myself. In hindsight, I should have removed the old paint off of the frame, but I was more concerned with replacing the acrylic. I think I'll t...
