Re: New owner of Cape Dory 26 / Mast Weight Question
I used this article and many manuals from boats that have mast-raising systems in order to make mine.

Re: New owner of Cape Dory 26 / Mast Weight Question
I created a mast raising system for my 26 that allows me to raise and/or lower the mast by myself. I’ve done so safely for the past two seasons. In short, The mast is on a tabernacle hinge, there is a gin pole that attaches to the forward base of the mast and is supported by non-stretch spectra on e...

Re: Location recommendations for solar-powered vent on a 25D
I just added one to my CD26 and I put it on the plexi hatch. If you ever change your mind down the road, you can get a replacement lens for less than $100. Filling a 3” hole in your deck will be much more complicated. Also, these vents are somewhat flimsy, even the pricey ones like the one I got for...

Re: Trailer extensions
My Triad trailer has a 24’ tongue extension that keeps the back tires of the truck about 5-10’ from the water on a typical ocean ramp. This is for a CD26 which draws about 3’6”.

Each one is a horizontal 20lb tank and gets about 10 hours at 3/4 throttle for a total of 20 hours.

Re: hoisting and stowrage of outboard motor
We have a 5hp Tohatsu propane engine that is very reliable (no fuel issues associated with gasoline) and pushes our CD26 along nicely. We keep her in the Merrimack River which has 3+ knot currents and have no issue bucking the tide.

Re: CD25 Outboard Update
I second the Tohatsu 6hp. I added the Tohatsu 5hp propane engine last year to my CD26 and it pushes it along just fine.

Re: Gutting a CD 25D?
Here are a few more. The trailer was made by Triad and works very well launching and retrieving due to the 24' tongue extension and the flip down wheel that takes the tongue weight.

Re: Gutting a CD 25D?
John, The 26 is a wonderful and very capable boat. I came full circle back to a boat this size after many summers and thousands of miles sailing a Fuji 32 Ketch. Some of my criteria is similar to yours, especially the ability to trailer. My main criteria were trailerability (including launch and ret...

Re: outboard motors
by 'biggest' I mean 'most powerful'. I contend with wicked river and tidal currents to get to and from sailing grounds. I do not wish to modify the well... at least not very much. after 30+ years of these boats being sailed I am surprised there is not more information on the topic... Or maybe there...

Re: Cape Dory 22/22D vs. Cape Dory Typhoon Senior
Nice CD26! As a 27 owner, I admire the simplicity of that interior. having that open bulkhead and chart table really opens up the space down there. Nice icebox/yeti as well.. I have been considering doing something like that to my boat. How long will a block of ice last in that ? The Yeti worked re...

Re: Cape Dory 22/22D vs. Cape Dory Typhoon Senior
Beautiful boat! I was just reading about the c-head last night. Did you keep the holding tank in the boat? Did you hook your outboard up using propane ? There was a 20-gallon holding tank under the v-berth which was removed. This created a lot of storage space as well as removed a tank and hoses th...
