Added Bimini top to Typhoon
It might be difficult to see in this photo, but I added a sun dodger to my Ty. And they said it couldn't be done. Well, the heat has been in the high 90s and one needs a bit of shade. I tried to order a 36" top, but the one I got was the standard size, 41" ($120). I placed the supports 5.5...

Re: Trailer... Tires... Axle weight rating...
Thanks for your replies. I'm going to replace the axle and step it up to 5000 lbs. that ought to do it with a typhoon (2000) and trailer and gear. Odd to have this problem since the trailer was designed for the boat.

Re: trolling motor for a typhoon?
I've been experimenting with a 40# trolling motor. I measured the speed in light chop the other day. At top speed it could push the typhoon at 3.5 mph. It feels slower but I'm measured with my gps. I think a 55# or 62# motor would be perfect, if not going against too strong of a current.

Trailer... Tires... Axle weight rating...
I discovered an insane degree of wear in the insides of both trailer tires. I'm not sure if this happened all at once on very hot roads or if it has been happening and I haven't noticed. The trailer repair tech says that the Typhoon is too heavy for the axle, thereby putting the weight on the inside...

Re: Typhoon outboard motor opinions and thoughts
The wind died the other day. I found myself motoring in light chop. The 40# trolling motor pushed at 3.5 mph on the highest setting, and 2.5 mph on "4." This felt rather slow... But it did the trick.

Re: Evinrude outboard 4hp long shaft
It's a long shaft. Fine for a small sailboat, like a typhoon.

Evinrude outboard 4hp long shaft
I have a outboard which isn't working. The recoil for the pull cord is stuck. That can be worked around by wrapping the cord manually. But the motor isn't working. It was working a year ago. Probably ethanol gummed it up. I'm willing to sell it on the honor system. You pay shipping (which we could d...

Re: Furler and sail for Typhoon
The sail has a 10.5 foot foot. It is quite a bit more stained than I remembered. Yes, it could be sold separately. I'm going to try to add some photos.

Furler and sail for Typhoon
I've got a furler and its sail that I don't use. I trailer my Ty and found that the furler was awkward to work with when single-handing the stepping of the mast. So I'm set up now with hanked on sails. I would say the condition is fair. It probably needs adjusting. The sail is probably good (I think...

Re: Typhoon outboard motor opinions and thoughts
Yes, Peter Just, it is a nice thing to operate with only a trolling motor. There's no off gassing, no fire hazard, more locker space, better aesthetics, less pollution, very quiet, and zero carb maintain/no starts/ethanol problems, etc. True, power against a strong current would be lacking. Tides wo...

Re: Stepping masts - Typhoon
Yes, it is possible to raise/lower the mast with only a boom crutch. Having done the ladder technique many times (great), I found that I could just balance the boom on the crutch with one hand while walking forward or aft. It is key to know the center of gravity for the mast, which on mine is right ...

Re: Stepping masts - Typhoon
Thanks, everyone, for your tips on raising the mast. I read through each post carefully and then applied it to my Typhoon. This was the first time ever for me setting up the boat... and I decided to do it single-handed using the ladder spaced 6' back as Mark suggested. What was the outcome? Great. I...
