Re: Northeast Move

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions, I really can't wait to get up there. A question regarding Spruce Head Marine, do they also offer moorings (should I ever get the boat off the trailer), or will I have to find somewhere else to sail out of. If so, does anyone have any recommendations for that? ...

Northeast Move

Everyone, as always, thanks for all the help and advice. Due to a change in work situation, I will be moving from Philadelphia to Rockland, Maine. Although I am very excited about this new opportunity, I have a couple practical questions related to my Cape Dory Typhoon. First, although the boat is o...

Older Typhoon Tiller Issues

So I am attempting to get my boat ready for the water, but needed some assistance regarding the tiller on my 1971 Typhoon Weekender. Last season there was significant "play" between the tiller and the rudder post. When I went to investigate this weekend, I found the following. After taking...

Weekender issues, including motor bracket

First, I feel like I need to thank everyone on this board. I came across this website when I first started thinking about buying a sailboat, and the community here made me fall in love with Cape Dorys. After I bought Aria, I was able to use the site to redo seacocks (never want to deal with again), ...

Typhoon Trailer in the PA to MD area

I am a brand new Typhoon (to me) owner in Philadelphia who has a boat located in North East, MD. The plan was to sail the boat up; however, the more experienced sailor I was going to go with is now not available until much later in the season. I really want to get her out on the water, so was wonder...

Re: Replacing Typhoon Seacocks

I also had to cut out one of my two thru-hulls. However, after a month of trying to get the right parts from Defender (the full-sized seacocks did not work as anyone who had taken this project would have known), the new seacocks are in. Everything is working well, my only issue is the hose clamps. O...

Temporary Teak Management

So, having gotten plenty of advice on seacocks, I also have a question about my teak. Given the long discussions on this board, I am still debating Cetol Marine Natural or a varnish. However, I have a more immediate issue. One of my coaming board was done with the old Cetol, which now looks like bro...

Re: Replacing Typhoon Seacocks

I really appreciate all of the advice. I think I will be going down to the boat to measure how much room I have to work with. I am also thinking about taking out the old gate-valves to see the condition of the thru-hulls. My only concern being that I would need to find a temporary way to keep the sc...

Re: Replacing Typhoon Seacocks

Aria is a 1971 design. The gate valves that are presently in her are very large, so I think i should have the ability to put in a seacock, especially if I use a 90 degree elbow to turn the assembly on its side. I got the idea from Compass Marine: http://m9.i.pbase.com/g6/84/622984/2/83681399.0KMjWxn...

Replacing Typhoon Seacocks

So I am a recent purchaser of a Cape Dory Typhoon and am very excited to get her out on the water as soon as possible. However, there is some work to be done before that can happen. One of the things I think needs to be tackled first is the seacocks. Currently, Aria has a pair of gate-valve seacocks...
