Re: PredictWind
Jim: Thanks for your reply but I have to tell you, I read that and in my mind it sounded like Charlie Browns teacher. I have no idea what you said, lol. I’ll sail the boat and try to get my own polars. Until then I’ll stick with the Alberg 35. I’ve sailed to and from Newport and the Chesapeake many t...

Re: PredictWind
Steve: Good to know about the wind speed difference between their predictions and observed. From what I can see of their boat polars, they use 15 knot wind speed, and you boat speed at 50,90, and 160 degrees. Those speeds need to be with no current plus or minus. PW has no Cape Dory polars listed. I...

PredictWind
I am planning a trip to Maine and downloaded PredictWind to play around with their weather routing. I have a CD33. The nearest design that I see in their list of boats might be the Alberg 35. Are there any CD33 owners using PW, and what are you using for your boat polars?

John: Great pictures, looks like you are having a good time for the most part, except for the cat litter box of valedictorians. With Boris Johnson getting rid of the mandates in the UK, are you hearing any news on whether the BVI will follow suit? If they open will you head over there for part of th...

Binnacle and table from a CD33 for sale
I am completing a change from wheel steering to a tiller on my CD33. I have the Edson binnacle, 27.5 in diameter SS wheel and Richie compass for sale. I also have the steel bracket from under the cockpit, as well as the bronze pulleys. The base of the binnacle is solid, but it needs paint. I also ha...

Another sailing community loss
Patrick Childress passed away in South Africa of Covid a few days ago. They got caught up in quarantine and both got the virus. Rebecca recovered quickly I think. Patrick was hospitalized and on a ventilator. They have a popular YouTube channel. Patrick has circumnavigated multiple times. He and his...

Re: Attaching stuff to the headliner
I have a 33, the headliner is pretty substantial, maybe 3/16-1/4 in. I would have no problem putting hangers into the liner. I would drill a hole, and put a dab of epoxy on the threads, then drive the screw. For heavier stuff, I would cut out the liner and epoxy and screw a block into the deck sandw...

Re: Source for Bronze Flat Head Machine Screws
I second the recommendation for Bolt Depot. Easy website to navigate and they are pretty quick on the delivery. I have not compared prices, however. I just assume bronze hardware is expensive.

Re: Lock Down Books?
Great idea for a thread. The Hornfisher books were great reads, I read them both recovering from surgery last year. Bernard Cornwall I really like. He has a number of series of books. Sharpe is only one of his series. He is the author that really seems to research the methods of warfare for the time...

Re: Surveyor for CD33 in Newport, RI
I bought my boat in Salem MA in Oct, 2013. I used Peter Hunt. He did a very thorough inspection. I also bought a very good, well maintained boat. I was not from the area, the broker recommended him.

Re: Insurance during the crisis
After looking closer at the terms of my insurance and how little they will pay for anything on a boat over 20 years old, I plan to cancel my insurance when my policy year is up.

Re: Coach roof thickness
I don’t know if this helps, but here goes. I have a CD33 and I am removing unnecessary deck fittings. I am not on the boat now but the coach roof has about 1/4 in fiberglass top and bottom with about 3/4 to an inch of balsa core. And there is a gap to the liner. I dislike having the liner, but it is...
