Re: Perkins 4108 leak and engine upgrade
The projects you describe can all be done without removing the Perkins. The timing cover seal is a typical source of oil leak, but that, and the front seal around the crank shaft pulley are not difficult jobs within the engine in place. If the rear seal is suspect, then that is obviously a different...

Re: Beige deck paint
Deck Awlgrip final 2.jpg Hi Mike, Not sure what combination of colors would work and I have never seen a stock color (Interlux, Awlgrip or otherwise) that matches. I Awlgripped my entire deck and cabin top using "Off White" and "Mood Dust", the latter mixed with Griptex. While i...

Re: Holding tank dip tube
I may have misunderstood your earlier post. It sounds as though your dip tube is reinforced hose..? The two CD 36s which I have refitted (early-mid 80s) both had rigid pvc dip tubes extending to within about 1-2 inches of the bottom of the holding tank. They attached to a PVC elbow fitting on the ex...

Re: Holding tank dip tube
Jack, From your post, I'm not quite sure what the issue is, but you may want to look at using 1-1/4 schedule 40 pvc. It has an ID of 1-1/4 and an OD of 1-11/16. I have the same dip tube set up on Blue Note although I have never has to replace it. 1-1/4 ID shouldn't be a problem given the application...

Re: Perkins 4108 raw water pump
In my experience, there is a trade off between rebuild and replace with these pumps. A replacement, notwithstanding the ridiculous price (either Jabsco or Sherwood) seems to last longer than the rebuild. I rebuilt a Sherwood and it didn't last that long. Finally replaced it and no issues years later...

Re: CD36 Height for Overland Transport
I have transported my 36 many times with the mast laying a few inches above the bow and stern rails (radome down in the companionway. Clearance under those circumstances was less than 14 feet. Some the clearance will depend slightly on the trailer configuration and how high the keel is off the ground.

Re: CD 36. below deck auto pilot
Chad, I just completed a Raymarine install on my CD36; linear drive (Type 1),ACU-200 control unit, EV sensor core, p70 Control head and rudder sensor. Linear drive unit is installed on port side. The set up also requires an additional tiller arm attached to the rudder post which is available from Ed...
