CD36 Height for Overland Transport

Post by Ripple36 »

Hi folks,

I'm looking for answers to 2 questions:

1. Does anyone know the height of a CD36 without the mast? I saw a post for a 33, which was around 12'. I imagine it's pretty close, but just want to check.
2. Any recommendations for an overland transport company? I'm going from the Chesapeake (Rappahannock River) to Lake Champlain.

Thanks!

I have transported my 36 many times with the mast laying a few inches above the bow and stern rails (radome down in the companionway. Clearance under those circumstances was less than 14 feet. Some the clearance will depend slightly on the trailer configuration and how high the keel is off the ground.

You can PM Jake in the link above and ask which transport company he used.

I used "uship.com" as a bidding site. You have to be patient, but that web site can save you alot of money. I had my CD36 moved from Maryland to Orwell, Vermont with a truck and trailer that would open to the back for depositing her to jack stands. The problem is not height, but the 10' 6" width. The trucker "should" have had an oversize permit. Overweight permits are expensive, Oversize permits are not expensive. My guy moved my CD36 in a snow storm, which is illegal for over sized loads, and with no oversized permits, which was also illegal, wasn't really cool. But, he did have the lowest price. I hope that we meet up on Lake Champlain sometime.
