1GM vs 1GM10

Sea Hunt, My 1982 25D is #77, two later than the one you'll be looking at, and has the 1GM, not the 1GM10. You probably can't tell by looking, since they are the same engine with the block bored out a bit for the 10's higher power. Look for the label plate to be sure. The only external difference th...

Eyebrow dimensions...

Trapper - I plucked (!) mine from my boat a month ago, hoping to minimize the pain in refinishing them, and they sit in the basement as we speak. The overall length of each is 121" plus an eighth or so. The section is basically rectangular, 3/4-inch in the vertical dimension and 1/2-inch perpen...

Mid-bay marina

In the mid-bay area, western shore, a quality DIY marina is Herrington Harbor North, in Deale, MD. Not sure of "moderate" since it's been several years since I was in there. It has a West Marine on the premises. There's a HH South too, but it has no haulout facilities.

Getting back aboard

I have one of your typical folding transom ladders; it's held up by a line that loops around the stern rail, then is tied to the step nearest the water, where it can be easily reached and untied from the water. This only solves the problem of getting back aboard after falling off, not the problem of...

Sail hanks

See Sea Hunt's link. I have the Wichard snap-on hooks on all my headsails. They make it almost enjoyable to go up there and change a sail. Well, maybe not, but they certainly speed up the process.

Alignment

...why can't the mounts be milled/filed out a little bit on the starboard edge? The material is cast aluminum, and you only need .008 or about .2 millimeters to be back in the groove. Actually, Ray, they've decided to lengthen the slots in the mounts a bit, rather than mess with the engine brackets...

1GM alignment on 25D

Any bad experiences out there aligning a 1GM to the shaft on a 25D? I seem to be having one... I'm not doing the work, though - I'm having Bay Shore in Annapolis (a reputable firm) change the engine mounts, in addition to installing a new cutlass bearing, stuffing box hose, and propeller zinc (these...

Leaking teak coamings

I had the same problem with the port locker coaming on my 25D. My first "fix" was to remove and rebed the same teak in 3M 101 (that removal was a simple "unscrew and pry".) After a couple of years, the leaks returned, and I also I found that the starboard coaming was actually rot...

Tim - On my 25D, the interior handrails are installed from below with screws into the liner pedestals, and the exterior rails with separate bolts with nuts. When the interior rails are removed, you'll find holes in the liner pedestals through which the nuts are accessible.

Beautiful work, Andy. I've got about a thousand questions about how you created this vision, but maybe I'd best wait for the book. There WILL be a book, right?

Galley pump

Just so you know -- the Whale footpump can be installed at the bottom of the transverse bulkhead between the ladder uprights. It's very much out of the way and you have the convenience of no-hands pumping. This was about the first mod I made to NANCY DAWSON when I bought her ten years ago. It requir...

Dinghy for sale - Fits on 25D foredeck

25D owners (or anyone else): I'm selling a homemade, pram-type dinghy that fits on the foredeck of a 25D. Included are oars, block and tackle and bridle for lifting aboard (a one-person job), clamp-on wheel assembly for moving it around on land, and a polypropylene towline. This is a SMALL boat, abo...
