Re: CD36 engine mounts

Mine looked like this, and the new one H&H Prop in Salem MA made for me in 316ss, fit like a glove.

Re: TIARA, powered up for the starting line.

Thanks all! She balances out beautifully with single reef & staysail John. We beat all the way out of Buzzards Bay into gusts around 30kts, lots of water over the deck, and the boat never missed a beat. It was a fast and exhilarating start to the 2019 Marion-Bermuda race, and the wind held for n...

Re: Thru Hull Wrench Needed

I've been using an old radiator spud wrench on thru hulls for years. It works pretty well with a pipe wrench to apply the twist.

Re: CD36 engine mounts

Hi Jeff, I replaced the whole engine foundation on my '85 CD36, and it was a beast of a job. My foundation wasn't bolted, just glassed directly onto the hull. I had to remove the Perkins & cut the frame away from the hull with a Dremel and their #543 bit. My foundation was rusted paper thin on t...

Re: ArriveCAN app

Quick update, now that the Board is up again. : ) In my post above, I mentioned clearing in at Shelburne as an official port of entry. During Covid, Shelburne was closed as a port of entry. This option may have re-opened now that Covid restrictions are largely behind us. The real news is the new &qu...

Re: CD25 Sailing to Nova Scotia

I've done that crossing a few times, takes two days generally. Expect the fog/drizzle to start about half way across. You can clear in with Customs at Shelburne yacht club, just tie up to the dock & call Customs upon arrival. The club is friendly, and be sure to check out the dory museum before ...

Re: Perkins 4108 leak and engine upgrade

Engine Bed, old small file.jpg Engine Bed, new small file.jpg My experience with engine beds is similar to Matt's. About 10 years ago I lifted the Perkins out & blocked up in the salon, then cut the old bed out with a Dremel. I had a local shop make a new bed from 316ss & I tabbed it in on ...

Re: Shackles are to blame!

3.jpg 2.jpg 1.jpg While it was good advice, the spinnaker halyard may have been wrongly accused. I pulled the spinnaker halyard down and it was clean, no scars at all. A closer look at the roller furler's top swivel tells an entirely different story that does not involve spinnaker halyards. That fi...

Re: Marion to Bermuda live tracker

Update: I'm starting to think my furler failure was operator error. It's a brand new Harken MkIV that I just installed a few months ago, complete with halyard restrainer on the mast to keep the jib/genoa halyard from wrapping the swivel/foil up top. I'm thinking it was actually the spinnaker halyard...

Re: Marion to Bermuda live tracker

At the start of the race, it was all sunshine & soft wind, really nice for a change beating out of Buzzards Bay in 12-15kts. We cleared Sow & Pigs about 7:00 pm, but couldn't hold the rumb line for Bermuda due to SE wind, so we slacked off a bit, reaching toward Noman's Island. After sunset ...
