The problem is that it has to be tightened from the top, as there is no swinging room in the engine compartment. On the MD11D, they changed the design and used an actual nut that can be tightened with a wratchet. It's really a poor design, unless of course one has the correct special tool.

All 7 of my stanchion bases need to be replaced as they are corroded right at the weld. 2 have broken off completely. Is it possible to keep the flat part of the base and have a new pipe receiver welded on or do I need to replace the whole thing. They are stainless. I have not been able to find, any...
