agree with whitejw1967
Yes 27's have 6 ports. This boat has 8. Its not a CD27. Could it be CD28 hull #1?

no holes solution
I couldn't bring myself to put a hole in my hatch cover so I lopped off the engine control arm instead. I hack sawed right through the control arm removing several inches and leaving only about a 2-inch stub of the rubber handle on my Honda 5 hp four stroke. It works fine, I can close the hatch cove...

weather lee
I'm looking forward to putting the 110 through some maneuvers. But I still want more canvas to drive the boat in light air. I'll post a photo of the shiny new bowsprit if I ever get around to building it. In the mean time, please play through Tim.

thanks
I appreciate your observations. Mast is straight. My main is brand new loose footed Sobstad. Very nice. My genoa is old and I've been thinking of replacing it. The boat came with a fairly new 110 jib but I haven't used it much because wind has been light. So I'll try and test the balance with it. I ...

hmm
I've been happily sailing my CD25 since Spring when I bought her. My experience so far, and the observations of others in this forum, is that these boats are prone to weather helm. I've been able to balance it well on a reach in light breeze. But I've had problems balancing in 8-10 knots of wind whe...

masking tape
Regular painters blue masking tape works fine. Only thing is it has to be removed in less than a week (maybe two). If it stays on too long its very hard to pull off as the tape gets weaker than the adhesive. I try to remove it within 48 hours to be safe from drudgery.

CD25 cutter?
Has anyone ever added a bowsprit to a CD25 and moved the forestay forward? Seems like it might improve the balance. Could also increase sail area and even make a cutter rig possible.

no double steering
My new (old) CD25 came with a 5hp Honda. I guess you've discovered double steering is impossible. Mine has worked great so far. I've almost given up trying to back up with it but these boats were never meant to go in reverse. Anyway its proven to provide plenty of power against and with strong winds.

sink drain
My sink drain on my 1980 CD25 has a dedicated through hull next to the port side cockpit drain. I'm planning to close it off and drain my sink into a jug I empty over the side as needed. That's all there is for most of these boats as far as I know since porta pottis are more common than head/holding...

weather helm
My last boat was a Marshall Sanderling Catboat so I'm very familiar with the rigors of weather helm. Reefing early and often is the best way to control it on the catboat too, I found. Because I'm comparing it to the Sanderling, I guess, my CD25 has seemed quite well balanced so far. I've bought a ne...

increments
That is right, Dick. My upcoming voyaging will be as you describe. I'm also planning to make short forays into heavier weather to develop and practice changing sails, reefing, heaving to etc. in stronger winds with heavier seas. When I was younger I'd take the Victoria 18 out in 30 knots of wind for...

I'm just sayin'
And thinking. John Vigor makes a big point in his book that he's not talking about CD25's. He's only saying CD25 "D"s are capable of "taking you anywhere". But aside from pointing out that the original 25's have cramped cabins, which says nothing about their seaworthiness, he doe...
