New owner CD 27

I bought the boat mentioned above by Oswego John. We both had contact with Horizon Transport, and, as John said, we were both well pleased with their delivery. I made the original contact through PK Boat Transport; I worked with Kenny Breedon (423-351-1443) who set up the shipment with Horizon. This...

mixture of resin/milled fiber/talc

Fred, Thank you for the diagram; it was most helpful and I understand how to proceed for everything but the "void". When you say to fill the void with a mixture of resin/milled fiber/talc, would this be equivalent to using West System #407 low density fairing filler mixed with epoxy? I hav...

rebars and firberglass repair

Hi John, Fortunately, the "rebars" are there and intact. The material on the floor is a powder like substance that was gouged out from behind the fiberglass and from around the rebars. I am going to begin the repair as you suggest, by filling in the void with glass mat and then cover and f...

Rudder repair - fiberglass work

The following pictures show our Typhoon's rudder as it is attached to the hull. As can be seen, water penetrated this area and rotted the material underneath the fiberglass. We gouged out the rotten material as far as seemed necessary. Apparently the material was made out of foam of some type. This ...

Crack repairs

Hi John, I wouldn't miss repairing the cracks if someone else offered me money to watch them do it! This has been such an enjoyable project all the way around - a true delight. As I said, I already have all the materials and tools to tackle this part of the project. As you told me, the Typhoon is a ...

Sailing is the thing.

I agree with your logic. I would rather have a boat that I can sail often rather than one that is over the limit of resources in maintenance, overhead and crew necessities. Single handing is also one of my requirements. How do you find towing your boat? Does it go down the road nicely? I have a Toyo...

What should I do about these bow cracks?

In the process of refinishing the hull, I uncovered these cracks in the bow. Are there any suggestions about what, if anything, should be done? Has anyone seen this before? Safety Suggestion

Marc, I very much appreciate your heads up on safety. I snapped this shot as I was in the process of re-locating the Typhoon so I didn't have the redundant safety's that I always work with. I have found this pallet racking system to be extremely useful for this project. I set it up in a "I thin...

Dana - pictures

Hi Dana,

I would very much enjoy to see more pictures as you post them. I am happy now to have a Typhoon, but as the generalization goes, I am already thinking about a bigger boat!

Please see my other post

I mistakenly posted a response to your question as a separate post. If you would like to see more information on Peel Away please go to the post titled "Peel Away to keel" by Jerry S.

Peel Away to keel

We have just finished applying Peel Away to the Keel of our Typhoon. I think this will be the last application. So far we used 3 pails with 2 applications to the above waterline area and just now a heavy coat to the below waterline. I'll let you know how it works out. I hope to have the entire hull ...
