i installed a check valve on my 27 after I developed a siphon in similar to the above conditions. Going below on a beautiful day to find 8" of water over the floor is unpleasant. (about 25 miles NE of abacos)
What is the reason why check valves are frowned upon?

They do. I am replacing the screws as they are different lengths and basically you put er in and cut er off. Saved all the PM nuts, but getting a few extra just in case. Did not remove the glass. Paul says this is very tough to do, breaking glass real possibility, and getting the old bedding out of ...

Mine are all out I came up with a little bit of a different way to remove them...will post later, I am running right now to the sand blast guy. BTW...how have people delt with the hard (?polyester) compound that fills the space between the deck house and liner? It is cracked and a few hunks missing....

Thanks all for the input. 4 out and 2 to go!! The first was a bear...but then I got the hang of it and it is going well now. Glad I am doing it (though not really enjoying the process) as all machine screws have significant corrosion from the leak and I will feel better having them replaced. Definit...

Removing and re-bedding Ports
Hello all, Well I am making progress on Callinectes (CD27) but have much to do in the next 5 weeks. I am tackling the ports (I hope I should be doing this) as 2 have evidence of leaking (water/green stain from interior machine screw sites) AND I am painting the decks/house. I have read the old posts...

Thanks all. The Bracket is now out...and was a good thing too as the 2nd plate was pretty much mush and one of the welds on a strut had failed. Removal was pretty easy. Stern teak also removed. That too was good. Despite the 5200 still having a lot of life (ugh...THAT is fun job!) there was moisture...

Thanks for the great insight(s). Yes I will tackle this... And will gladly post pictures. I am planning on replacing the teak toerail as it has worn significantly and is splitting in places which would seem likely to be related to the leak, and these new problems. I had the entire toe rail replaced ...

Failing Backstay plate CD27
[img]As can be expected with a biggish restoration project I am finding "issues"... There is significant rust, losing about 2 mm of thickness on the plate that is glassed to the stern to support the backstay. The loss in on the top of the plate, between the plate and deck joint. My inclina...

Re: hatches
I removed both hatches from my 30c about six years ago. It wasn't that difficult. I used Boatlife Release to soften the bedding compound after removing the frame screws and with a thin putty knife got it under the frame. No big deal. IMHO, don't waste your time painting the frames. I had mine powde...

Anyone have experience removing the ports? Putting AC on this boat? .....maybe a removable shelf over the head...and a small portable unit vented out the dorade ? Would be a little hassle to move to use the head, but for a temporary set up maybe more simple than installing something in the forward h...

Re: Refinishing A CD 27
The first thing that I noticed was that you are thinking of using Awl Grip on cabin top and deck surfaces. Yeah, it sure looks "purty" but I have doubts using it on decks. You look at it crosseyed and it blemishes. I would think that you would use a finish that would stand up better to da...

CD 27 restoration project
Hi all! I have owned a CD 27 since 1988 (the 2nd owner). She has had regular maintenance though a bit neglected the past few years due to life etc. I did a full bottom job in 1998 and rebuilt the engine. The interior was redone as well around 8-9 years ago including a new panel and stove. I am ready...
