sail cover for typhoon

Am in the final stages of completely restoring my 1979 Typhoon and was wondering if anyone has knowledge of a sail cover template to send to a canvas guy to make a new sail cover. I do not have access to the boat, otherwise I'd take the standard measurements. Hopefully some on has had a similar expe...

Re: Typhoon outboard questions

Thanks OJ,

Didn't realize using the throttle handle would provide quicker response. Makes sense. Guess I need more of that. Sense, that is.

Typhoon outboard questions

Have read numerous posts/opinions about the suitability of everything from 2hp to 6hp outboards for use with Typhoons. In addition to a long shaft and being relatively light weight, is there a preference among Typhoon owners about the "ideal" outboard, particularly to just maneuver in/out ...

Re: Replacing Schaefer stand up blocks on Typhoon

Ron, That's an interesting problem. If nothing else, Schaefer makes us think. Is that a good thing? This is probably too simplistic, but, since the spring isn't "attached" to anything, do you think it might be possible to put on a new one in exactly the opposite way you took off the remain...

Re: Replacing Schaefer stand up blocks on Typhoon

Gary,

Money was spent long before it was saved. Remember, we have sailboats.

I liken the savings to drinking diet coke with my Twinkies. A mental offset.

Replacing Schaefer stand up blocks on Typhoon

Discovered last year that the stand up blocks on my 1979 Ty's 3/4" track were desperately in need of replacement. All I needed was new sheaves, or so I thought. Bottom line: the sheaves are riveted in place and apparently not designed to be replaced. Then I discovered that replacement would rin...

centering outboard motot mount on TY transom

I have a 1979 TY with the standard Spartan motor mount shown here: http://www.rigrite.com/Hardware/Motor_B ... r_mnt.html. Question is, can/should the mount be centered on the transom. It would seem that the mount would clear the back stay.

OJ, Martin's telephone number is 800-323-9464 (www.somersetsails.com). Plan to place my order today. Do you happen to have an opinion on/see a significant difference between radial and cross cut for TY purposes? All I know is cross-cut, but Martin seems to make a compelling cases for radial without ...

Gary, Thanks for responding. Am sure you're anxious to get your sail. Spent some time with Martin on the telephone this morning and think I'm going to order a main and a 135% jib w/CDI furler. He's quite knowledgeable and an enormous source of all things sail. Did you order your main with cross cut ...

Gary,

Am considering a new set of sails by Somerset as well. Did you eventually purchase from them?

How could anyone ask for more?! As my granddaughter might say, "This board rocks!" OJ, your drawings - assuming they're yours - leave nothing to be desired. Well, almost nothing. Will be hauling Versus out tomorrow with camera, paper and pencil in hand. Hopefully I'll be able to provide de...

Thanks OJ,

Didn't think to - but will now definitely - level the boat arhwartship to determine the correct positioning.

How would you recommend setting the poppets prior to the point when the boat floats onto the trailer?

Using new trailer with Typhoon??

Thought I'd seek the collective wisdom of the board before doing something totally - and embarrassingly - stupid. Just took delivery of a new trailer with poppets and was wondering if there a prescribed/preferred method for the initial adjustment of the poppets. Am thinking it makes sense to raise e...

boat cushions

Len, Thanks for getting back. Please let me know if the "cushions promisee" decides he/she doesn't need them. My Ty is docked at Lake Nockamixon, located near Quakertown in Upper Bucks County. It's predominantly a sailing lake with both wet and dry storage. Beautiful setting and sailing ar...
