For Sale: 1978 Cape Dory 25 in Cleveland, OH

I love this boat, but it's not big enough for my family to take weekend trips in. Moving up to a J-30, so the CD25 has to go. 1978 Cape Dory 25 Johnson 9HP motor & 3gal Tank Main, Working Jib, 120% Genoa. (And an older main with a tear.) Halyards were replaced last year. Sheets were replaced las...

WTB: Mainsail for a CD25

Tore the main pretty good this year when we pulled her out of the water. (don't ask...it's embarrassing.)

Email me what you have, and what you need for it.

doug@sparkbase.com is my email address.

Er...I don't know about a trolling motor. If you get stuck in ANY kind of bad weather, you'll be a sitting duck.

I ended up getting a used sail from Wayne Stevens of Porpoise Sails. (www.porpoisesailing.com)

Luff: 25"
Leech: 23.6"
Foot: 14"
4.5oz Dacron
$175

I don't mind the sail being 2' short. It's almost 2X bigger than the 85% it came with.

Maiden voyage tomorrow!

Proper Jib/Genoa Dimensions

Through searching the archives, I've come up with some conflicting info on proper dimensions for a larger sail. For a 150% Genoa, I've found two (very) different sets of measurements. Can someone throw some light on this for me? Were there different mast heights? Luff 25'-8" Leech 24'-4" F...

WTB: 115%-130% headsail for CD25

I'd like to find a sail that someone has decided they don't need anymore. (Maybe you converted to roller-furling?) I'd just really like something that I can use as a light-air option. We have a standard jib now, bot in light air, it's tough to get moving. Let me know what you have, and what you'd be...

So after one weekend...we love it. I took it out with the wife and kids (3yo & 1yo) yesterday morning after a LOT of cleaning. We only had about 6knt of wind, so we never got her over 2-3. Today we tried again...same results. But TONIGHT...I took her out again when Angie took the kids home, and ...

She's in the water!

Took a quick sail from the launch-point to the dock. Only about 30min, but had a blast. Got her up to about 4.5kn.

DEFINITELY need to find a bigger jib.

I think I'm going to look for a 135 to 150 to handle light air, and keep the working jib for heavier air.

Marc: Oh I'm well aware of that...I was just a little taken back by the smallness of the only head-sail I got with the boat. (Edit: That sounded kinda rude...didn't mean it to be.) I'm going to take some measurements tomorrow so I know what I've got now. Anyone know of a compatible boat I can fine a...

That's what I thought. I really hope I can find a larger sail that'll work...somewhere.

Heck, I might be able to find something else that may work in the boat-yard. I keep thinking that the #4 on our T10 would have been bigger than this thing.

Is every CD25 jib so...small?

Just to test all the rigging, I put the jib up yesterday. The boat was still in the cradle, so it wasn't going anywhere...but I had to see what it looked like.

I was a little surprised how small the jib is on a CD25.

Is there another option for a larger sail? Should I bother?

Thanks for a thoughtful post. I'm looking at the daunting task before me with all the gray teak I have on my CD25. I have no preconceived notions so any advice is well taken.

Pics?

Trigger = Pulled!

I'm the proud owner of "Chickadee II" Hull #587.

The yard had a Johnson 6HP that I picked up for a song. So all I needed was a battery, and a few other nick-knacks. I'll have it in the water by Friday!
